  • AUX port 2007 jetta

Hi guys im now a vw jetta owner .
I love the standard stereo in the car the speakers are great. But is there a way to hook up a mp3 player I cant seem to find a aux port anywhere. Is there one? or will I need to buy a fm tuner? Also the cd player doesnt play my mp3 cds? should it play them?

    thanks

Is it an RCD300 or RCD500? I guess it could even be one of the premium options, but unlikely. Also is there a 6 stacker in the glovebox?

(info regarding what you have will be in the user manual BTW)

I have an RCD500 MP3 in my Golf which has capability of Aux In with the appropriate cable. I am however working on fitting an RCD310 for a few other benefits (providing my car does not dislike the new unit and drains the battery for me).

Your Jetta being an 07 and unable to play MP3 indicates it is probably an MY07 which means it probably won't suit one of the newer generation stereos without a bit of work...

          I wouldn't buy it.

I'd be more tempted by this:

with heaps of info in here:

Quite possibly a better solution even though it is a run out model (at least there's some degree of support for it!)

The RCD300 supports one auxiliary input (often used for the CD Stacker, or Bluetooth input) that can be used for an audio in cable. I had one installed on my 2007 Jetta, it was $300 from Brisbane Car Sound and it came out of the glove box.

thanks maca, sounds a bit to expensive for my liking. how about this rcd 310 from a 2012 jetta would my plugs just plug straight into it? or would they need to be modified? I would then have mp3 but no aux.

found this on ebay. anyone tried this? if I installed this would I lose the use of the cd player? or would it just work as the aux?

                thanks

The RCD310 will plug in (will need an antenna adaptor) and likely work but it'll also probably drain your battery unless you get the Canbus module upgraded as well. So this starts getting expensive. You could try and look for an RCD500 from a 2008 and newer model Golf or Jetta, they will plug in and not drain your battery (and unlikely to need an antenna adaptor).

                  Expensive option:
                  Enfig VW12 IPD AUX EnfigCarStereo.com

                  CHeaper option:
VW RCD 300 Audio Aux Input Passat B6 3C Golf V - VW Audio Auxiliary Input - VW RCD300 Audio Aux Input - CD Changer Emulator Store Audio Auxiliary Input

Both options will likely require your car to be attached to a dealer computer or a willing Vag-com (Ross tech) system so the RCD300 can be programmed to accept the Aux input (you press the CD button twice to access it).

You should not forefit your existing in dash CD Player but if you have a 6 stacker then yes you may need to unplug this.

Regardless of what you pick if you want something integrated the dash has to come apart. It is pretty easy though and not a time consuming thing to do at all. If you're in there it is also time to consider a bluetooth option considering our laws at present. There's a couple of plug and play options out there which won't require your car to be re-programmed to access them...products like the FISCOM from Kufatec.

Id be confident enough to install it and I dont have a 6 stacker. I live out in the country but we do have a vw dealer in town I wonder what the dealer would charge to so the 300 would accept it.

Regardless of the HU, you'll need an aux input which can be found either under the centre compartment or in the glove box.

It could be worth looking into getting a Bluetooth module for your car that enables you to stream music straight from your phone.

The RCD310 is not a very nice unit, I use it often in my parents MK6 Golf and apart from not looking that great its also not very feature rich. Personally if I was going to go too all that trouble of ripping my dash apart, and most likely having to upgrade the canbus (as your car is a pre08 model) then you might as well go the RCD510 (colour touch screen with sd card slot) they are like $300-400 on ebay.

Not really a help to you but I literally just sold my Dension gateway unit for $50 which would've given you Aux out and full ipod connectivity (with good control not crap control like the stock ipod cable). I had it up on the for sale section for ages, but had very little interest.

The reason I sold my dension unit (which I do miss btw) is because I upgraded to the ANS-510, the seller is pushing out old stock at discounted rates, I picked up my unit for around $500, and it has 6.5" colour screen touch screen, bluetooth, ipod, gps, usb, sd card slot, full steering wheel controls and it looks stock:

If Chinese units are not your thing, then you could always go for a full RNS510 upgrade but you're probably looking at 1.2k

I fitted one of these, a simple aux-in function for less than $50, works well.

It installs in the optional 6-stacker plug so if you have the 6-stacker unit this can't be fitted.
