Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • A/C stopped working - VAG code help

My A/C stopped working the other day.
It was working fine and was super cold before it stopped working.
Then all of a sudden one day it just decided to blow out warm air.
Almost died in the heat yesterday..

Ran the VAG scanner and found the following error code.
Is it just as simple as getting the refrigerant topped up?
I have read in other forums the A/C's in MK5s are a problem.

    Anyone have any experience here?
Hope it is not another expensive fix

The code is basically saying you are low on refridgerant. Get it checked out, find the leak and recharge the system.

This is where everyone gets caught out with this fault code
The compressor is buggered and cant build up enough pressure to run the system properly . Its not really common for mk5 Golfs to lose gas , it is common for them to have compressors wear out !

I am getting the same code with my AC and I had a refrigeration mechanic/sparky look at it before I take it to VW (on Monday). He claims there's no issue with the compressor, just my resistor in the blower fan is having an issue. It could be the same issue for Mini, but I had a look around and everyone is claiming it's low on refrigerant.

I'd bite the bullet and take it to VW.

They'll lose gas if it leaks out the pressure sensor, as it commonly does.

Hi deadpool, let me know how you go.
I have searched a few other forums who suggested it could be a few things.
            Fuse, relay, fans, compressor etc.

I have checked fuses and they are all good.
I am hoping it is a relay or something small and not the entire compressor.
Anyways, will take it to an ex-VW mechanic next weekend also.

My GTI will be in at Barloworld on Monday. I'll give you an update sometime in the afternoon when they've diagnosed/fixed the problem.

              Stay Tuned!

AC compressor and TX value were dead.
Now replaced and working again after lots and lots of $$$.. sigh.

Damn man! Glad to hear it's sorted, sad to hear that it cost a lot.
