Imparts in Adelaide sell them as well as Bosch. There is probably a branch in Brisbane. Next time I replace a battery I will be buying one of those brands. No more Asian manufactured & badged Exide/Century batteries for me. They don't seem to be made to DIN standards for size[mine was too short] & they don't last as long.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

BatteryWorld outlets can order them in as I was after one.. the price was around $340 or so, but I changed my mind and ended up buying an AmaronPro for $260 or something like that. Still a step up from Century.

Does it have to be Varta?

I replaced mine after 5yr and 9 months with a premium RACV battery for $222. The replacement is rated as 600CCA compared with the original of 380CCA. 3 year warranty too.

Surely the RACQ aren't too different than the RACV?

        Good luck.

If you can't get Varta, the Bosch S5 (574.035) is a very well made battery and worth a look,
it's rated at 680CCA, and should outlast many other brands.

I'm worried my battery is on the way out. Car would not start after leaving passenger door open for a few hours.

              Some info I found tonight.

I may be a bit late with this info but I bought a Varta battery from a VW dealer for $280 for my Mk5 GT TDI. I bought it from Highway VW in Brisbane and seeing the original lasted over 5 years and was still going (but on the way out) I thought it was a good deal.

My original Varta battery lasted 7 years before it slowly began to die. Best battery life I have ever experienced in over 40 years of car ownership.

AGMs don't like high heat, so installing under a GTI bonnet may be too hot. Good choice otherwise, as there are a lot of systems in the car for which deep cycle is mandatory for long battery life.

I got the first hint today that mine may be on the way out - a slightly slow cranking and failed to start first kick - temperature about 1 degree this morning. All subsequent starts were fine.

I'll probably just replace with the same, since their life is pretty good.

Some AGMs are better suited to performance cars such as Optima's or Odessey's. Intimidators are good too but it's all about space and figment with batteries. Since they are already dry batteries you don't need to worry about them unlike the OEM original maintenance free units.
