  • 2.0tdi rear muffler

    Hey guys.

Has anyone taken the rear huge muffler out of the exhuast system all together ? The 1 just behind the bumper .

Im contemplating getting mine cut out and having a stainless pipe there instead for possibly a better note and less restriction in the exhuast ?

    Any help would be great

I'd be very wary of doing that, as you might find that the car is tuned to have the back pressure of that muffler on the turbo. A little bit less will certainly help, as they tend to be overly restrictive from the factory, but not having anything might not be a wise move, especially on a diesel
Another path may be to find a GTi exhaust, but you'd need to find a valance to match that - might know where there is one, but it is Red...

I've heard of de-catting, removing the centre resonator, but not the rear section. Good way to get defected if you ask me...

i run completely straight through and no issues
Diesel's take a lot more to become louder than petrols though

I've just gone 2.5" to 2 3/4" with an aeroturbine muffler. I didn't remove the CAT just the stock exhaust and sounds great. Get a turbo spool when you change gears and a good tone is also really quite. VW Golf 2005 2.0 TDI MK5 Aero Turbine Exhaust 2525XL with R32 Rear Bumper and 4" tips - YouTube

Could be me - I did it and you can view it here

I found no difference in performance, no difference in noise and no issues - do it - the muffler weighs heaps so the weight saving alone is worth it.
