MY08 later this week

Guys im finally getting my my08 gti later this week. Due to a mix up it's actually not end of jan which was the original date - worked out great. I got it in red, dsg, leather and a roof. I love the colour red in this car. My only regret in the last few days was not getting the sat nav with it. I've always owned jap cars so this will be a new experience for me! I know after sitting it in and driving it it killed my last cars interior, style and finishing - wrx. I probably wont post any pics because they all look the same stock unless I take some crazy unusual photo! Any tips on the pickup? I know theres a few things to check for ie the chocks and the bottle opener. Mats are included which originally I wasn't sure if they were.

wise to do a check over the car for any dings / scratches etc or things inside, mine had a ding in one of the speaker grilles on top of the dash, also on one side the protective door trim was chrome on the other it was black!! So a general walk around is wise, also a quick check under the bonnet for fluid levels and also the build plate, mine was an 07 compliance but 06 build plate.

I'm picking mine up soon too...funny - maybe they were on the same boat?? I've been told mid-Jan though... Mine's very similar, Black, DSG, 5 Door, Leather, and Roof...I couldn't swallow the $3k for Sat Nav. when I can pick up a really good unit for $500, and it's portable!

Anyway - enjoy the new car and let us know how you go on pick up...I'd be interested to see how it goes. PS Where did you purchase?

I am praying my Jetta was on one of your boats. I have been told my car arrives late Jan, but maybe I will be lucky . I ordered a Black TFSi, with beige leather, sunroof and SatNav.

I'm picking mine up soon too...funny - maybe they were on the same boat?? I've been told mid-Jan though... Mine's very similar, Black, DSG, 5 Door, Leather, and Roof...I couldn't swallow the $3k for Sat Nav. when I can pick up a really good unit for $500, and it's portable!

Hey gti_syd getting it from waverley in vic. The wife and I were tossing over red or black. She wanted black I wanted red. I liked the black too but I ended up persuading her to go for red. You are probably right about the sat nav portable option. It's funny how dealers have their base prices and you can end up leaving there paying so much more for options.

I'm getting it from Sydney, so maybe the boat's gone to Melb first, then up to Sydney....let's hope! Yeah, I liked the Red too...and the Silver for that matter...my last Car was Black, so decided to stick it.

I know what you mean about the options...you think you're buying a $40k car, and then they tell you how much it costs with Dealer Delivery and the Options - bit of a rude shock!

I think the 'boat' only makes one stop at Port Kembla, near Wollongong. It did for my R32... but then it came from Germany and i heard the GTi's are from South Africa??

I wont steal your thunder... but i got my MY08 R32 last Friday 'twas later then originally promised, and knowing it landed in Australia on the 12/12 makes VW look pretty bad - it didn't arrive at the dealership until 24/12 They have to be the slowest European car distributor i've ever dealt with.



Enjoy your new beasty! And remember to do a thorough job going over it before you accept it from the dealer. You'd be amazed at the little things they miss that you pick up 30 seconds after leaving the dealership

Wow your R32 looks beautiful...Congrats on picking it up - yes, I've been told the GTI's (5 doors - 3 doors are from Germany) come from Sth Africa too...and I've been told the boat's landed and it's sitting on the docks as we speak - I can't wait to get the keys and go for a drive!

congrats mate, GTI is way better than the WRX as far as interior goes, not sold on FWD over AWD performance but I am sure you will be happy none the less. My best mate has red GTI (pic below) and my missus has the new GT TSI both great cars.

The ships make several stops in Europe, 2 in South Africa then Perth, Melbourne and finally Port Kembla.
My R32 departed Germany early November, arrived PK 16th December and the dealer won't get it till this Friday or Monday so it's another week at least till I get my grubby little hands on it.
The distribution from the docks is handled by Patricks who seem to take their time.
So Congrats on the early delivery, you can consider yourself lucky

Cheers. I was very happy to finally have it despite a few small issues. Mah, no one ever seems to get paint to my satisfaction

Re: Patricks being slow... i had that discussion with my dealer principle. Seems VW Australia wont pay Patricks a premium for faster service, so Patricks do it when they've got nothing else on or as 'backload' with other makes. I was told it took 10 days from the time Patricks got the car to their Ingleburn holding area to load it on a truck and drive it 40 minutes to the dealer It sat at PK for 2 days. I was getting quite annoyed at the wait. My last car took 5 days from dock to delivery!! it took 12 days just for the VW to get to the dealer The dealer didn't even have the option to call Patricks and arrange pickup or pay to expedited service. VW Aus need to lift their game in that department... especially if it's my money!

I put a fair amount of pressure on my dealer to get me the car before xmas - their sales guy assured me they would do everything they could to deliver on that, so i made sure they did I'm happy with the effort they made now i have my lovely lovely car

The other makes i've had all arrive much quicker - like around 6 days from landing to me picking the car up. All i can say is this car was truely worth the wait!

I was told mid Jan as well originally, then got a call today to let me know that the car has arrived but is still sitting at Patricks. Hope to get it before end of Jan.

Which dealer did you go through?

How cool - you must have good taste then! I went through Denlo at Parramatta, yourself? I must admit the communication process on when the car will arrive hasn't been very good, I've had to chase them to get any information, and it's always fairly vague...

I was told once it's at Patricks it takes 10 days til the dealer gets it in their holding yard, then about a week to get to me, depending on the options requiring fiting (which is none for me, given all my options should be factory fitted, not dealer fitted). I was told on 28th Dec that it was in Patricks yards, and given New Years public holiday, and the fact things a generally a bit slow early Jan, I'm going to wait to 10th -11th of Jan and call the dealer back to confirm if it's in the dealers yard (assuming the dealer doesn't call me before hand .... ha ha ha ha!).

Where are you getting yours?
