Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 07 Golf GTI - Slow ignition?

    Hi all,

First time VAG owner and absolutely love it. Had my little beast (MY07 Golf GTI) for only 3 days and have noticed a couple of things. It was regularly maintained at a dealer from previous owner and had only 34,500kms.

BUT i have noticed that when i turn on the ignition to start him up, it doesnt turn over quickly - almost sounds like it's running out of battery. Thinking it could be an old battery i took it down to the local mechanic to have the battery tested and it's fine - new battery and normal 12V output.

Also, my drivers side door isn't unocking with either of my key fobs. Again, initially thought it may have been the battery, but now suspecting locking mechanism within the door.

Could these 2 be related because i read somewhere that the fuel pump engages when the drivers side door is unlocked (could be totally false)

    Cheers

It does sound like an old battery.

Door lock issues are usually due to faulty locking units. Best to take it to a dealer if you can't open the door at all. If you can open the door you could replace it yourself. If you do an internet search you'll see it's a common issue with mkv golfs.
MKV Golf 2.0 TDI DSG Sportline. Just nice.

Thanks Stickshift - i booked it in with the dealer to have the door latch unit examined. The technician suspected that was the issue. I'll get em to check the battery too.

      Cheers
