  • Mk5 FSi Sportline - Aircon

    Hi All,

I have recently bought a Mk5 FSi Sportline, and generally very happy with it, but the aircon is not cold (amongst some other smaller issues). I have had it checked and was offered a quote for $1800 to replace the compressor! ....having done some research online it seems that the Mk5 is well known for ac compressor problems!? I was also warned that I may need a new condenser (+$800) if it appears to be blocked during the flush.

I'm thinking of buying a compressor from ECS (Volkswagen Golf V 2.0T > Search > Compressor > ES#2561845 Air Conditioning Compressor - 1K0820808B) and fitting it myself whilst I do the cambelt and water pump.

My question is, has anyone else been through this?

    Hi Presto.
I had similar prob to you recently. I took it to reputable air con shop in Preston Vic ( Plenty Road ) and he topped up the system with a bit of extra gas. He said it is completely acceptable for motor vehicle air cond. system to slowly leak small amount of refrigerant over time. ie every 5 years or so? If the system isn't used often enough ( especially over the winter months ) seals deteriorate and the system can develop slight leaks. Gas top up normally takes only 30 mins or so and around $120 'ish. Since then our air cond. has worked beautifully at around 4 deg C, which keeps everybody smiley through our hot summers! If you are interested I can PM you his details?
    Cam.
