  • What should I do before getting a Stage one flash..? i.e. check what....

    Hi guys.

I recently purchased a 07 golf gti, (which turned out to be MY0 manual, it now has about 45000ks on it.
Just doing a few things at the moment, replacing tyres, getting some colour coding done and going to get a APR stage one or bluefin (still reading and searching on that one)

It has been serviced recently and everything was fine.

Just wondering if there is anything I should get looked over before getting the flash done.... or just do it and if things arise deal with them then....?

(i think it has had a reasonably easy life from a older lady, who held on to it after her husband died)

Any help or experiences would be appreciated.

It was serviced about 1000ks ago and all good. Just wondering if there was anything else worth looking for in particular that they may not look at in a regular service?

DV valve and PCV, ignition coils check. New spark plugs perhaps.

Yeah thats what i figured. How much does a OEM psiton style DV cost and to install..? And new spark plugs..? Think I would wait until the coils were not working and hopefully get them replaced for free

Also replace the cam follower - known to fail on these motors

If you are getting a tune then consider a less restrictive air intake as well to get the most out of it.

Has the timing belt and water pump been done? The kms are low but the belt is now past it's used by date...

You're coming up to the major service in a few thousand KM. I'm at ~77,000KM and I just got it done with no issues. I'll get it checked out by Volkwerke once the service time comes around and they'll give me the verdict.

Just baby it for the first day or so for the tune, then give it the beans. I can honestly say that the Tune makes a huge difference and is well worth it.

Usually 12 months or 15,000km whichever occurs first. So in your case with a low km car it will be every 12 months.

If you're putting a tune on I'd probably recommend a little more frequent as the engine is going to be working harder.

Consider it as a bit of an insurance policy given the car is out of warranty.

Yeah will definitely do more frequent Services once flashed. Should be ok to wait until 60ks to do the timing belt?that will be about 6 years old then

Time, belts get old. your car is almost 6yrs old I wouldn't risk it...

Yeah ok. Can the belts be inspected? I.e on service records it states that they are checked?

This timing belt interval thing is weird. Just looked at my last service form - a month ago and it still has on there 105kms or 7 years.. contacted the dealership and they said yep - that is what they go by......
