  • I chose...

I ordered my new car today (merry christmas!), and it should arrive in approx three/four months. The final spec is...

    R32 3dr

    *deep blue pearl

*dsg (easy on the flame people, haha)

*rns 510 navi (with touch screen + 30GB HDD)

    *darkest possible tint (street legal)

*headlight protectors + bonnet protector (old man style i know)

    *parking sensors.

i should have a vin to track it within the next week or so (after new year's).

i would like to endorse the quality of service and patience of the highway vw (bris) sales dept, Dan Gowan looked after me and was a pleasure to deal with.

        thanks!

i guess dsg is my thing, it is something that i have become accustomed to (with my current 2.0TDI). the manual r32 was a blast to drive, but long term i know i would be happier with the dsg... functional and fun (imho).

...as for five doors, for me it is too many - no kids, no plans for them in the next few years, and friends that would not mind crawling over a seat to jump in the back (if there is more than one passenger)

i hope the wait goes fast, patience is not something that i express well. haha

your fast must be broken... mine tells me its too much weight to have extra passengers unless of course its italian with big boobs but they dont come around too often eh

              congrats on an awsome car!

Gday mate - congrats on the the new car!

You mentioned a touch screen Nav with 30g hard drives? Is that aftermarket or stock? I would have loved the stock sat nav if it wasn't so archaic! When I was offered sat nav - no touch screen, had heard all sorts of reports about 'route recalculations' taking upward of 2 minutes!

                  hi, bailey. thanks for that!

the rns 510 navi is the new factory unit for '08 builds on.

according to the links below, the rns 510 is quite fast - i had heard that the current system is sluggish at best... any improvement on that is a good thing.

One of our biggest qualms with the optional satellite navigation offered on Australian Volkswagens was the lack of clarity and the low quality graphics used to represent streets and objects. Speed was also an issue - calculating routes and devising different routes took far too long.

RNS-510 (MFD3) Navi System - Discussions about the RNS 510 systems found in the CC, Golf, Golf Plus, Tiguan, Passat, T5, Touran, Touareg and others.

when i was shopping around, i was offered a pioneeer navi unit as a dealer fit option. but as good as the pioneer unit looks/performs, i chose the rns 510 factory unit because i like the idea of a three year warranty + full integration (with the mfd guage cluster etc etc).

am looking forward to it... hoping that 3-4 months flies by

ah, yes... the big boobed Italian models. they tend to be quite volatile... that's not to say they are all bad, just not sure if i would make (or let) one sit behind me in a car.

                    haha

oh i didn't know this navi is available when i ordered my GTI in mid dec07. i guess i can still change my order as it's not built yet.

anyway do u mind telling me how much it cost? also which dealer u bought your car from (i ordered thur Highway)...

                      cheers

                        Hi, Nardi

i ordered through Highway VW (Bris), they really looked after me.

                        for what i ordered;

R32 3dr, DSG, sat nav, park sensors, headlight + bonnet protectors, street legal tint (darkest possible), one year of rego + ctp.

the grand total was ~$60,500 OTR. this is fleet pricing (on a private sale), and should be achievable if you meet certain criteria.

if you work for (or own), a company with fleet vehicles you can submit your details and be registered for fleet pricing (as a private sale). the scale of discount is stepped in proportion to the number of vehicles your company has in its fleet. i am quite certain that if there are more than 55 vehicles in the fleet you are good for the maximum discount.

you should investigate this, and assess your eligibility. it really is worth it

                          thanks for your reply.

i ordered at Hwy too and they are top guys. especially the manager there who sat with me to do the deal (rather than having the sales running in & out of the rooms).

i will be paying 45k for the spec on my signature. but 1 think i was a little disappointed was that i wasn't shown with the accessories list. i wasn't aware that the new sat nav is available or i'd get it too. it seems a top unit.

i guess i'll have to make a trip there on 27th (the poor guys have no holiday).

45k is a good price for that spec, is that including ORC (stamp duty, rego, ctp, delivery etc etc)?

                            either way, well done

the new navi (rns 510) was something that i was familiar with, and they worded it into the contract for me.

i was informed that the new navi units will be available for after factory installation (dealer fit) around april next year - it just means that you miss out on the new style sharks fin/bee sting aerial, and there is an additional premium on the cost. i would say that this has to do with labour on the install etc.

the guy i dealt with (Dan G.), was very helpful and patient. i spoke briefly with their brand manager (Robert), he seems quite pleasant - if not a touch eager, but i guess being excited* about VW is his job, hehe

*it is good to love what you do.

                              45k is drive away.

i don't have access to fleet price etc. i just went there, test drive and did the deal.
