  • South Yarra VW - SERVICE

Word of advice - DO NOT take your car to South Yarra to be serviced. I took my car in for the 7500 check up and oil change an $360 later they did the 15,000 K service on it????

On top of that, they didnt even bother washing my car and to top it all off the was a dirty big grease mark on the drivers door and door handle.

You can bet your ... I will be speaking to the manager on Thursday...

How old is your car?? 12months? if it is, that would explain why they did the 12mnth/15,000 km service on your car.

You should have asked them before you left the car with them how much the service would cost you.

Before you leave the service area you should check your car for grease, dont pay or accept delivery after service if the cars condition isnt to your satisfaction.

Also, if it were me, i would PREFER if they did not clean my car. Last thing i was is some apprentice mechanic being told to wash my car, all they would do is high pressure hose your car and chamois it. Screw that.

I had a similar experience. Found oil spilled on drivers guard? Got told that tyres were not rotated, some story about not needing it done even though the serivice states it should be done. Asked about the oil they put in it, and got conflicting stories. I won't be going back there.

      By the way Merry Christmas!

You dont need to take your car at 7500 (I assume its a GTI?) no matter what they say, no harm in doing an oil swap yourself if you feel the need.

Not all dealer servicing centres wash your car, so i wouldnt expect it!

What you can expect however is for them to mess you around and not know what they are talking about.

              New GTi owner

              Hi all !!!

Much appreciate your feedback, guys. South Yarra is definitely off my list. Its hard to find a good reliable mechanic these days.

Around late last year, I saw on 'today tonight show' bout this lady had her black VW golf been taken for a joy ride instead of being properly serviced at VW Camberwell.

nah that was a typical beat up story blown out of proportion. The car was run into when it was taken home overnight by a tech who was trying to diagnose a fault.

But yeah. South yarra need to pull their socks up. They seem to be happy to charge south yarra prices and not give south yarra service. I bought my car from them and they lost my business within 30 minutes of me picking up the car. I think ill be taking my car to glen waverly for my 12 month service when the time comes.

and in regards to washing your car. Be thankful. South yarra put some of the worst swirl marks in my paint and tail lights that i have ever seen on a new car.

Actually, this happens at most dealerships, VW and pretty much everything else. Simply because the mentality of detailers is about equal to that of a toilet brush. Most vehicles on the display lot are always hosed and then chamoised with no suds between - that's where most of your swirls and scratches come from. Then there's the "customer's taking delivery of the car today, just give it a quick dust-off" and there's some more scratches. I've worked in various Ford, Toyota and Mazda dealerships for many years, and unfortunately, I see this happen all the time! Mercedes-Benz dealers generally employ intelligent beings who know how to present a car properly when detailing - every example, especially in Obsidian Black, was gorgeous to see ready for delivery in the showrooms.

Besides the spring chocks being left in, the swirls and light scratching in our GTI paint was something that really annoyed the hell out of me about our VW dealer.

From my previous cars ive owned, i hardly take it back to the dealer unless its for warranty issues. Ive heard that Barloworld are pretty good and I bought my car from Essendon VW - Havent heard anything bad from them either.

Dealers rip you on servicing so theres no point "really" going there.

You're best bet is to take it to VW knowledgeable mechanics.

                    cheaper and more reliable too.

Try Volkspower in Burwood, Audvolks in Clayton or Volkwerke etc. Im sure theres more.

South Yarra service 10/10 so far

                      Hi Guys,

Just thought would give my thoughts on the South Yarra VW thing.....

So far they have been flawless with their service - and I didn't even buy my car from them. Very helpful and professional.

More than I can say for the one in Glen Waverley. (But I won't go there )

I have heard bad things about Essendon (where I bought mine), Camberwell, Glen Waverley, Geelong etc. Every dealership would have customers with horror stories. You just have to be lucky I guess.

PS I would NEVER want my car to be washed by a dealership. In fact I ask to make sure they DON'T wash it.

                        Hi All,
Just had my 1 yr service done at Barloworld Glen Waverley, and I must say they did a pretty good job of it, it wasn't cheap mind you, but got a window cleanser and a rather complicated looking wine bottle opener as a "complementary" gift...

I wanted a 6,500k oil change, wimped out from doing it myself (after I bought the oil and filter) and got Volks Affair south melbourne to do it. I saved $200 off the SYVW quoted price for an oil change, after i bought the bits and paid for labour at Volks Affair. I was happy with that.

How much did they charge for that oil change? (excluding the parts that you had bought)

Actually - how much for filter and oil too?

                            Cheers

$77 for the filter and 4L of oil (not quite enough, but the garage topped it up during service) and $108 for the labour to change.
