Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Handling/space?

Does the current model 2.0l TDI Jetta drive or handle differently to the current model Golf 2.0l TDI. Is there any more leg/foot room for the driver in the Jetta over the Golf. I am thinking of changing. What should I get as a trade in 07 tdi golf dsg for a 08 Jetta2.0l dsg? Bazz

    Bazza.
Get into the dealer before the current Jetta sale ends. (I think end of dec)

Tested both Golf and Jetta and found a slight difference in ride between the
two. Measured my jetta compared to a VY Commodore recently and the jetta
    had a larger boot.

It's true, Jetta boot is bigger than commodore or falcon (maybe not the station wagon versions though).

          The reason... german engineering

Probably better if you take a Jetta for a test drive, as you are the only one that can say for sure what handling/ride compromise suits you best, ditto for leg/foot room.

If you are looking for more boot space than a Golf in the VAG family have you considered the Skoda Octavia sedan (actually a hatch) ? The one I drove had a boot that looked even bigger than the Jetta's boot ! You can also get an AWD Octavia 2.0 TDI if that's of any interest to you.

Jetta boot definately is huge. I recently had an Aurion sedan as a loan car (my other car, a Jeep, broke down) and the pram that fits easily north-south in the boot of the Jetta wouldn't fit north-south in the Aurion, and was a massive squeeze east-west (Jetta eats it east-west no worries too).

              Jetta - it has a tardis-like boot!
