Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Air on failing post service

Had my GTI serviced recently, after service felt the air con was pretty weak. Thought I must have been imagining things, but now the weather in vic is warm enough it's clearly not working (27deg yesterday, air on on full bore, car sweltering).

Car previously had no issues keeping it cool on 36deg Brisvegas days.

It's back to the stealer who serviced it, but they have already started the "unrelated" noises. Which to be fair, it may be, but not promising that they've closed off already.

Obviously I'll be seeking detailed info once they've looked at it, but is the a/c a common failure? If so, what usually fails? Any other thoughts welcome also (such as repair guesstimate....... ouch I'm guessing if I end up having to wear it).

    TIA.

Compressor failures and pressure sensor leaks are pretty common.

      Ok, thanks for the info.

So I assume that means replacement? Any ideas on cost?

Yes, aircon faults are common in the 2005-2007 models as a faulty batch of compressors were put into these models.

If it's a compressor failure budget anywhere up to around $3500 to get it fixed at a dealer.

Probably nearer half this price at an independant workshop.

Verdict: Pressure sensor. $500 exercise incl re-gas.
Hard to blame that on service, but annoying given no fault code or anything at the service.....
