Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Just got back from a trip to Wagga, drove the freeway without the cruise on
took the back road from Gundagai and my trip computer showed 850 km
traveled with 190 km to empty when I refilled it took 50 litres, the car only
has 2500 kms on the clock. Huge difference to my 5 litre commodore

That's pretty good, and no doubt at least twice as efficient as your old V8. Although 5.8 l / 100km isn't anything special as far as turbo diesel's are concerned, and I reckon it will be possible to get the GT Sport TDI down to around 5.0l / 100 km on a long run.

I have just refilled too after 830 km and discovered that my trip computer is a tad optimistic. It was indicating 5.7l / 100km, but when I did the calculation myself (it used 52 litres), it worked out at only 6.2 l /100km. Still, considering all the city driving I had done on the tank, it's not too bad. I'll do a long country run soon and let you know what I get.

I'm told it will do much better after its run in properly, that figure also includes
a bit of a high speed run along a back road, just to see if there was any
        spiders living in it.

Probably quicker too if the 5l commodore was stock standard.

Just out of interest what l/100km were you getting from the commodore?, or was it on LPG.

Don't know I never worked it out because I'm mathematically challenged, and it
was to early a model to have a trip computer, ( VR ex Highway Patrol )
