  • Jetta TDI - when did DPF fitment begin?

    Hi folks,
looking to buy a TDI Jetta but would like to avoid DPF, was there a particular year / month or some other identifier for when DPF fitment began? Any other issuess to look for?
    Thanks

I have the December 06 build and no DPF. I believe the engine designation begins with BKD for no DPF fitted.

Jetta TDI - when did DPF fitment begin?

        I've got a May 2008 built and it doesn't have a DPF.

If it has a PD engine rather than CR (common rail), then it won't have a DPF.

DPF is an acronym for diesel particulate filter.

Particulate = soot = black smoke

                  My 2009 1.6 litre TDI has a DPF. My previous car, a Hyundai 130, 2008 model didn't.

Thanks for your interest and replies, from redbook and other sources it seems that (going by pollution output) DPF fitment started in 2009. Was hoping to determine if there was a particular build date that fitment started.
I avoided DPFs with my i30 that was a 2010 model, dislike the fact that even though they regenerate (if given the right operating parameters) they still eventually clog and restrict exhaust gas flow as they degenerate.....

pretty sure that all Mk5 Jetta 2.0l 103kw PD TDI have NO DPF.
DPF were only on the 125TDI found in the Highline Jetta
The Highline Jetta has the Common Rail 125TDI engine which is 125kw and does have a DPF.

Highline Jettas with 125TDI came out late 2009

Highline Jettas (125TDI and 147kwFSI) can be 'sort of differentiated' as they came standard with parking sensors front and rear, and also front fogs, and colour coded lower front and rear bumpers. For Standard Jettas, Optical Parking sensors were optional (some did have rear only) and so were front fogs, but the colour coded bumpers are a dead givaway unless it was done aftermarket.
If you look at the buiid sticker in boot or in manual inside cover it will say HIGHL.

Rory - sounds like your 1.6 TDI is a CR maybe even is a Bluemotion to have a DPF.

I have a 2009 Jetta brochure in front of me, 103tdi changed to common rail with DPF. So the change may be in some late 2008 built cars.

I just looked at my Brochure "specifications are as planned at November 2009".

OK, so we seem to have a consensus that around the end of 2008 fuel supply changed to Common Rail and when that happened DPFs were mandatory??
I presume I would still be able to tune an earlier model??
