  • Jetta tfsi dsg exhaust help

Hey guys I have a issue that I would love to sort out ASAP haha.

I recently took my Jetta to the local exhaust shop and removed the rear muffler and replaced it with twin 2.25" straight stainless pipes. I also had the resonator removed (was replaced by press bent pipe) . As anyone would expect, it was too loud and droned a bit.

So I decided then to put a hot dog in after the cat so I could fit a decent size to dull the drone.

The issue I'm having is after about 4ish rpm it sounds like an vy executive flooring it.... Goes from buuuuurrrrr between idle and 4rpm to the sound of someone blowing through a straw :/

I'm confused how this happens. I'm hoping someone can help me

    Cheers

It will just be resonating at those frequencies, I bet it sounds *****.

So.. you've fit a 'hot dog' (resonator) and now it's resonating....

I wouldn't call it resonating. Just making a "****" sound. I'm getting the cat back remade on Saturday in 2.5" see what happens after that... Unless I find a cat back soon

An exhaust system has to be 'tuned' to suit its environment of engine type, length etc.
Power loss and noise is normally the result of playing around (apart from legal issues)
As you have learned you cant just cut and chop.
We all learn the hard way.
There is nothing wrong with a correct muffler. It will have cavities that 'tune' out the bad noises without loss of performance.
Hot dogs etc may actually impede gas flow and offer a slight reduction at some frequencies.
