on my comfortline 2.0 tdi i was told that the first service is 15k, and hence did this. however on my gt sport the sticker on my windscreen says 7.5k? whats the deal with that? is it just the stealer trying to reach in my pocket? methinks so...

so should i tell the dealer that im not coming for their first service at 7500 and that ill see them at 15? i was planning on changing the oil/filter myself at around 7000 anyway... dont really feel like donating 300-something to the stealer. the only thing im interested in is the warranty - i know how to take care of the car, it wont get neglected either way.

    thanks - michael.

    Michael,

Look in your owners manual, it will tell you what VW recommend for service intervals (most likely 15K or 12 months, whichever comes first). The 7.5K service is extra $$$ for them, but many people like to do an early oil change (I did one at 7.5K).

I suggest you buy the oil and oil filter from the dealer and keep the receipt (in case of a warranty problem and they accuse you of putting the wrong oil or filter in your car).

Make sure you get the right oil as per your owners manual (VW 507.00 for a TDI with DPF).

Please keep us informed of how your GT TDI is going, as some of us are thinking of buying one in the not too distant future.

For the GTI the recommended first service is 7500km, though you don't have to do it to comply with warranty.
It is just an oil change.
With the more hightly tuned turbocharged engines it is definitely recommended to do the oil change no later than 7500.
I'm taking mine to a dealer for the first service so i can can get some of the convenience options changed.
I got 2 quotes, for $75 and $89 for the service (Parramatta and Chatswood dealers) The oil alone is at least $50, so it's a good deal. And the guys at Denlo Parra will change the convenience options for free. Nice.

So it's worth it to phone around and see what the dealers in your area quote.

i know chatswood uses the right spec oil for the tdi's. i wish the oil change on the tdi's was as cheap as on the tfsi, it costs around 100$ just for the fluids and parts (80something for the oil and 18 for the filter) plus chatswood loves to rip you off with anything else they can find.

thanks for the replies, looks like they wont be seeing the car at 7500 but i will definitely be doing an oil/filter change myself around 6-7000 as planned

            Hey Germanwithavdub,

My Melbourne dealer priced the oil and filter in the 30k service at $60.75 oil and $15.60 for the filter. They quoted Mobil ESP for the change but apparently sell a Castrol oil via their Parts dept. I'll clarify the different oils for my own reference but Chatie sounds a bit pricey in comparison doesn't it!

After hearing that, I didn't even bother ringing anyone else and just took it to the mechanic i know

Whats with the Cheapy Magnatec Comment?????? Great oil as far as im concerned and VW approved. Castrol are world leaders man and Magnatec is a great oil. Ive been at a seminar on it and i use it in all my Audis and VW unless client has other requests. Never had an issue with it. Great value for money.

I didn't think magnatec was a VW 502.00 or 505.01 approved oil. Maybe OK for older cars, but it is not a full synthetic and I don't think putting that in a modern turbo engine in particular would be good for the engine in the long run.

I put Mobil 1 0w-40 in mine, bloody expensive but it is an investment for a long running engine in my opinion.

Well I got ripped off - my GTI was in for warranty repair so I asked them to do oil change at 7500km - bill was just under $200 for the oil / filter change. The oil was around $100. I should have asked for firm quote first.

yeah depends on what oil is being used. Id be more worried about people that are getting really cheap oil changes done than the people that are being charged more.

If youre paying less than $50-$60 for the oil its self then id be asking whats going in. $20 for a filter and a new sump plug at least. Some money for their time. so whats that? maybe $100 all up?

                            oil change?

                            you sure got ripped of.

When I got my Polo 18 month ago I was told to take it in at about 7500km, it would get an oil change and a check up and for the first time its free. I did this at 7000km, while I was in Bundy at the time. They gave the car the oil change and and checked it out with tyre pressure and whatever, even gave it a wash.

And also when we got the Jetta yesterday we were told to bring the car in for a check and oil change at about 2000km as it is petrol turbo, I was told it would be better to bring it earlier than with the diesel. Its courtesy from the dealer and again I was told it is free.

I would go back to the dealer.

The 15000km service was done and cost with all the oil and filter ect $146.50.

                              The right oil...

This was what was used and they gave me a litre for topping up too (I'm sure it was in the $360 service bill)

They re-flashed the ECU as well with a recall which they said was to stop the smoke issue; apparently there have been others with the same problem as mine... see my thread:
