Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Front Axle Weight

Can anyone advise what the approximate front axle weight is of my Jetta?

Reason being that I am currently shopping around for some lowered springs and Orange Tuning in Germany offer two spring kits depending on the the front axle weight of the vehicle, ie up to 1020 Kg and from 1021 Kg.

Check out the link: Volkswagen - Jetta 5 - Fahrwerk - Sportfedern - Orange Tuning

Anyone have an idea which set I'd get for my 147TSI Jetta?

The quickest way would be to go to the nearest public weighbridge and have them weigh it.

Of course, you need to realise that as soon as you put passengers in it, the numbers will change.

Look for the vehicle identification plate (usually affixed on the frame below the B-pillar), which has the following information:

      Manufacturer
      EU type-approval number
      Vehicle identification number (VIN)
      Maximum permissible gross vehicle weight
      Maximum permissible gross train weight
      Maximum permissible front axle load
      Maximum permissible rear axle load

If the maximum permissible front axle load of your 2.0 TSI is below, or equal to, 1020 kg, you should purchase the first product (29261-1).

If it exceeds 1020 kg, then you should purchase the second product (29261-2).

      ...

FYI, the maximum permissible axle load for each vehicle is mainly dependent on the engine. For instance, the 1.6 FSI would have a lower axle load limit compared to the 2.0 TDI.
