  • No wait and cheap price ?

Hello all, going to join the GTi family this week picking up a MY08, RS 5 Dr, DSG with sunroof.

Seeing a lot of people has to wait, is this really that hard to get one you want? but not in my case, its going to be a novated lease car, and lucky the dealer has my combination in stock, but its Aug built date and Oct compliance, I would love to wait for a 08 built car, but w/o a car right now, its just so bloody inconvenient ...

So i ended up paying only $39,240 (exclude GST) for my GTi, don't understand why the hell dealers can sell even a demo for over $45K ??? someone even selling a 05 GTi for $39K, who's going to be that stupid to buy ???

A few questions to all MY08 owners:
    A) Can the headunit accept CD-RW disc?
    B) Can i burn songs in directories format?
    C) Will the headunit display correct tags or ID while playing
    D) Can you config automatic door lock when take off or whatever locking mode you want from the MFD?

    THX for your help!

That seems like a pretty good price.

You say that's excluding GST, what about the on road costs, CTP, stamp duty, registration, and the big one, dealer delivery?

That person selling their 05 for $39K probably paid $50K+ for it.

this price include all on road costs, my deal is actually a 10% discount off the ex GST retail price, then another $500 additional dealer discount, and they only charge me $900 on delivery charge, plus metallic paint and sunroof, plus all other ORC.

My friend got his Red DSG GTi (no other option) as a walk in price around May for $42500 in QLD and his mates just ordered a MY08 built blue graphite GTi with DSG and leather seats only for $45000, so I guess my price plus GTi is not much better off, unless members here can tell me that QLD cars are much cheaper than Sydney here ...

hi Kaikor, your friend must be Ken and i'm the one who paid 45k for the blue graphite GTI.

QLD probably has lower duty and rego but i wouldn't think they are much off.

when i put my order in, the dealer had a silver 5dr dsg and no option car on the yard. it's a March 07 built/May 07 complied unregistered car and has been out in the open ever since the car arrived at the dealership.

i offered $38k (being 6 months old + end of year) but was rejected instantly. they said the price i offered was waaaaaaaaaaaay off so i negotiated for a new car instead. i wonder when and how much they will sell that car eventually.....

nice to meet you too. Fancy coming up here for a holiday/meetup??

the offer of $38k was based on what Ken paid back in May07. being an old stock and end of year, i was trying to squeeze them. but they were not prepared to sell at a lost just to move it out of the door.

lol. you paid a bit more but you enjoyed your car much earlier.

our stong dollars + end of model cycle + lesser demand means we are buying for a little less.

Yeah, doesnt worry me in the slightest...worth every cent....

Waiting times and availablity of GTI's was stupid then because they got so popular so quickly. I think at that stage they were bringing 12 into the country a month or something silly like that. Dealers were limited to how many they could order.

The days when you gave the wave to other GTI driver....if you did that now your hand would fall off after about 15 mins of driving

I actually gave the Golf a good clean out on the weekend and went for a drive, even after 2 and a half years its still awesome, build quality is tops, no offence to other Polo GTI drivers but even after all this time it feels so solid even compared to my brand spanker Polo GTI.

Long live the MkV Golf GTI!!!

Hey anarchycamp, so absolutely not a single problem during your 2.5 years of ownership ??? i hate to go back to service just because of all these tiny little problems, even if its under warranty, i still have to drop the car off for a whole day ...

this is the ever 1st time i switched to a european car, always driven jap car before, hope the GTI is problem free at least for 4 to 5 years ...

Well the issues i have had so far are:
                    • Internal alarm sensor/tilt button fell out, replaced under warranty.
                    • Fuse for 12V in front blew, replaced under warranty.
                    • Radiator hose had slight leak at 90,000kms - not a big enough leak to even set the fluid sensor off, replaced under warranty

Thats it.....ive done 92,000 kms most of it with an APR tuned ECU which you would think would put a bit more strain on the car. Cant really complain with that. I'll be getting extended warranty before mine runs out for another 2 years as the car is only doing a small amount of kms a week now but I plan on keeping it for another 2 years at least.

Wont give an exact figure because I know I payed less than what is normal due to "mates rates syndrome".

Somewhere Between $1500-$2000 for 2 years 60,000kms for a DSG GTI.

Hi there, congratulations on your new baby!! hehehe
To answer your questions... (I have an MY08 too, Aug build, Sept Compliance).
                            A) Yes, it accepts CD-RW discs
                            B) Yes, you can. Folders/directories are accepted.
                            C) Yes, can display File name, Album, Title, Artist and something else as well...
                            D) Yes, you can config door locks, lights etc. from MFD.

Enjoy your purchase, and oh, looks like you got fleet-pricing, so that's a keen deal. Not everyone has access to fleet pricing.

Congrats Kaikor thats a very good novated lease price. How do you find the novated lease against buying the car outright in the long run? I did my sums again and found I was better off paying for it cash up front than leasing with my work - even though the ex gst incentive is very nice.
