Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • GTI/Golf Mats/Servicing and intro.

    Hi guys
I am new to the forum. I have been waiting patiently for my new GTI to arrive (pickup late Jan). In the meantime I have been on this forum and a few others over the last 3 weeks just reading up about the GTI. I used to own a wrx and loved it to bits. Since taking the GTI for a test drive I really enjoyed it so much more (power was a little less than my rex) but the smooth drive and comfortable seats made up for it. My question is in regards to the GTI mats you can get. Can you purchase those from any other online AU stores? I haven't seemed to come across any in my searches apart from VW. Also does VW allow you to take your car to another specialist for servicing? I did ask when I purchased the car but the sales rep advised me to contact VW direct. He didn't know but told me it shouldn't be a problem. I had issues with servicing my rex in the past with subi dealers and ended up taking it to a subi/vw specialist. Same job half the price and no issues after.
    Any info greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

If your not getting floor mats, bust someones balls until you do.

If your after aftermarket floor mats, search ebay UK/US/GER, are usually plenty on there.

As far as taking it to a VW specialist, thats not a problem at all, probably a better idea IMO.

PS..Welcome to the forum and Congrats on the car

The factory mats that come with the GTI are of a very high quality. I've had my GTI for 18 months and, whilst the drivers mat is showing some wear, compared to the mats in other cars l've owned, it's wearing extremely well.

Both front mats are locked in place and therefore don't move around. Easy to remove and clean.

thanks for this info guys. I completely forgot about asking about the mats when buying the car. I will definately raise it with the dealer prior to my pickup.

              Welcome!
Make sure you get your mats (Unusual if they are not included) and the bottle opener in the centre console dividing the cup holders - it's always a souvenir item for dodgy characters. Make sure the travel chocks are removed as well (ask Tim on the forum how to locate this). VW dealers, like Subaru, are a bit slack on knowledge and efficiency, so, as mentioned before, bust some chops until you get satisfaction.
I know you loved your WRX, as I loved my Mazda6, but this is such a better driving experience that you'll enjoy it as much, if not more.
              PS: Who's your dealer ???

Hey Philip why such a long wait? I mentioned I wanted an 08 model and they told me a ship was coming in Jan 3. I was tempted to buy an ex demo or one with not all the options I wanted that they had there at the yard but I thought I'd wait as well.

                        mats are always included.

you can get monster GTI mats from ECS tuning but they wont fit aussie spec GTI/Jettas.

I bought a pair myself. It needs a bit of a cut and custom fit. they look heaps better and are heaps more sturdy.

well 08 built and 08 complianced is slightly different.

with built, i want a car that will be build in jan08. factor in the usual shipping and delivering time, it can take months. they said the maximum is 4 months so that will be April.

with 08 compliance, they can comply a 07 built car in 08, which at the end of the day is still a 07 car. the cars that arrive on jan 3 should all be built in 2007.

ps. oops i log in with diff account at home... my bad.

well they said 4 months is the maximum. it should be earlier but they cannot gurantee and they stressed it can be upto 4 months when i sign the contract which i accepted as i prefer a 08 built car.

hey moguzhan - i was thinking of getting the monster mats myself. just quickly - i am guessing the mats didn't fit due to the LHS driver build and shape for the US vs the RHS driver for aus spec?
