Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Another GTI DSG thread - hesitation on downshift

Driving in D or manual mode, when downshifting one gear at a time (eg 4th to 3rd), the engine rev-matches fine, but doesn't engage in gear for a good 0.5 second. If doing multiple downshifts (eg 5th to 2nd) the car almost neutrals then engages the gear with a bit of a jolt

Had this one checked out by my mechanic, and he said just to keep driving the car as per normal and if the gearbox dies, just deal with it then. He did re-program the gearbox but hasn't made any difference

Any ideas on when I'll likely be forking out $4k for a new box?

The mechatronic is gone, honestly... Deal with it.
It wont die anytime soon, and you learn to drive around it after a few months.

      thanks for the info
Not really too fussed about it if it's not going to get any worse
Everyday driving is normal, just when I use manual for downshifting

A workaround is putting a bit of throttle on before downshifting then the gear rev-matches and engages in 0.002 of a second =)

Detuned my bluefin tune back to stock and no issues with the gearbox.
Got bluefin to provide me with an alternative tune and the shifts are a lot better
