Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Go talk to Gavin at Optimum code (Custom Code tuner based in Brisbane) - Optimumcode

I know he's tuned a few Jettas and is very reasonably priced.

There's a few other tuners around - Veizu, APR and others. Generally the larger tuners will have a two tier structure (Australian agent and local tuner). So you'll get 2 lots of margins = higher price. That's what I've found at least.

Suggest you decide first what you want to achieve/spend and then go from there.

Can you clarify if the TSI is the turbo or NA motor as VW did some werid naming change halfway through the Mk5 Jetta so i am not sure what one you would have.

I have a Turbo(147), it is strange...the car says TSi but, on the engine it has FSi?

A proper tune will set you back around a grand, but give the biggest gain by far.

As for parts, a dump pipe, any 3" one will give the greatest bolt on gain, they often come up secondhand, and I'm sure virtually any GTI one could be made to fit if it wasn't a straight bolt on. There are uncatted ones ( illegal ) on ebay for next to nothing out of China, "proper ones" start from several hundred. You've got Performance Exhausts just down the road from you at Brendale too, they are pretty cheap for exhaust mods.

Making sure your air cleaner element is clean can't hurt, I've seen them clogged with leaves, kind of makes ii hard for the motor to breathe!

Giving the intake a cleanout with some Subaru intake cleaner or similar Motul, Wynns etc etc couldn't hurt either with a few years worth of driving gunk buildup.

I have the same vehicle 2.0TFSI and got a phase 1 custom code tune with Gavin from Optimum Code. Gavin is a great guy and very helpful, definitely recommend him. I'd be happy to take you for a drive if you'd like to see the difference.

Don't ask him that! It won't end well.

OP don't blow your money on intakes and exhausts. Tune it first unless you plan on going to a downpipe in the future.

Intakes and exhausts won't do much to a stock car except make it louder, gains are small and probably unnoticeable. They will make a bigger difference after a tune, but even if you do nothing else to your car and just slap on a tune you will feel a big difference. It's not cheap though it will cost close to $1k.

Cheapest mod to make the car feel more powerful is probably a sprint booster but I still think it's a bit of a gimmick, it doesn't actually increase any power, just modifies the throttle signal. Other than that, if you want to feel more power you gotta spend the bucks.

                      Thank you all for advice.
$1000 is a lot at this stage but, something to think about in the future

It's $799 but if you spend your money on anything else, you aren't getting bang for buck.

A $300 air filter is worth a couple of kw, same with a $1000 exhaust. A tune gets you 40 odd kw.

Money back if you don't feel it's worth it.
