    Hi everyone

    This might be a bit of a newbie question, but what type of wear and tear would I be expecting on a 2006 2.0 TDi? Its just gone through 67,000KM and for the past 18 months its been mainly use for commuting between uni, work and home as well as a lot of highway driving around NSW. For the 12 months before that I delivered pizzas and it was driven a bit hard. I drive it hard sometimes still however my driving style has mellowed out as I've gotten older.

    About 11 months and 10,000km ago it had its 5 year service at Chatswood Classic Cars. They said the brake pads and rotors would need replacing within 5,000km and the front stabilizer bar boots were broken and needed replacing. (The car still stops just as suddenly when you step on the brakes and it doesn't squeak while braking.) Can anyone tell me if rotors tend to need replacing or do they get re-machined on the Golf's? I keep getting different answers from everyone I ask as to whether they can be machined or not?

    What kind of wear and tear would usually be expected on a golf that is going through 67,000KM and is just about to hit 7 years old?

    IDK, your background in euro's, but from the best of my knowledge, brake pads and rotors are quite soft, for instance, my mk4 bora, had 110,000 on it when i sold it and the guy who bought it had it RAA inspected, and the rotors were 2mm below what was said to be OK by VW. so it would not surprise me if you need to get new ones, however, i have a 2007 2.0TDI and mine still have plaenty of meat left, but then, my first set of pads hasn't been changed out yet and I have put 74,000 on it. So i think it depends how u drive it, and if you got it second hand, how the previous owner drove it, and whether they used brakes alot or gears to slow down.

      Every VAG car I have owned has required the rotors to be replaced during every pad change as the pads eat the rotors. Not sure if the TDI is the same though as they have smaller brakes then the GTI.

        That's easily fixed by fitting the ATE ceramic brake pads with the new rotors. The pads and the rotors will last much longer and you don't have to wash your wheels at all, just hose them off when you're washing your car.

          Is there any advantage to getting different rotors to the stock ones?
