Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • MK5 Jetta service cost - Sydney

    Hey guys,

Has anyone used Platinum Automotive Care in Pagewood?

    I have a 2006 VW Jetta Turbo

Does just over $3,000 for parts and labour sound right to carry out the following?

    - Replace PCV value
    - Flush and replace brake fluid
    - Replace timing belt, tensionor, relay reollers & water pump
    - Flush and replace coolant
    - Replace lower engine torque mount
    - Replace rear bushes of front lower control arms
    - Front & rear wheel alignment
    - Service A/C. evacuate & replace compressor oil and re gas
    - ECU software updates

The quote seemed a bit steep to me

    Seems very steep to me.

Have you got a quote from anywhere else. Are they VW dealers??

I'd be calling some of the VW specialists who advertise on the forum.

I've put in a request to VW Village and might also do the same with Barloworld in Five Dock just out of curiosity.

The parts pricing seemed reasonable based on my ebay/google searches, but the $1,600 of labour seemed a bit much.

Shop around mate, what's the hourly rate. That would have to be pretty steep for what I would think is a days work??

          From what i gather $97.50

If the car is there for a day surely the most they should charge is 8 or 9 hours labour.

That's my feeling! Unless they have 2 blokes working on it for the whole day........ or not?

Ahh of course, i didn't think of that..... although i can't think of why more than one mechanic would be required for a long period of time.

I guess i'll wait and see what BWA and VW Village quote and go from there.

              Thanks for responding.

I estimate around 10 hours work to do all of that.

Given that there's 7.6 hours in a normal working day, I'd be putting 2 whole days aside to do it just in case.
