Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Car Bras for Mk5s?

    Anyone got one?

Looks like I might be doing a lot of country kays shortly in the Jetta, and would prefer to protect the front from stone chips etc. Was thinking of getting a car bra just for the long trips.

Yeah I've looked at that stuff, but I like being able to wash/wax etc the paintwork without that sort of stuff. I've also looked at the temporary film stuff that you paint on (designed for 4WDs) but not keen on that either.

          Car Bra

I use a car bra on my '07 Mk5 when I travel the country roads.I take it off for around the town. Its just the ordinary vynal type. It goes on & off pretty easy but if you want to check under the bonnet it can be a pain. On the Spirit of Tassy the security bloke wanted to look under my bonnet (while it was pissing down rain) & that was a real pain! car bra make them for you with or without holes for the fog lights if fitted, they also have 2 long lumps on the top edge to keep the stones off o the w/csreen $ 375 delivered to Sydney suburbs. I can recommend them Bazza........

I have a 2 piece Colgon bra for my mk2, which is from the US & top quality
There is also a bra company in Marrickville, I don't remember their name but I did find them on google. They say they can make a custom bra for any make of car, but they never returned my email when I enquired

            happy hunting

do you guys have pics of any of these fitted to cars?

I just cant win when it comes to keeping my cars in good nick. Im the guy who gets crashed into every time he gets something resprayed. Or the guy who gets showered with stones 2 days after having his windscreen replaced. But im still curious. I think ive decided to just go for some headlight protectors on the MK5. I can handle a scratch or two. but replacing a xenon headlight seems like an expensive proposition.

I asked VW spare parts about price for headlight protectors and was told they can't be used with Xenon's.

oh? that seems a bit strange? Im bringing in some non genuine ones so will see how they go. Maybe they refract the beam too much or something?
