Hey simple man. That makes me wonder then where the 'evaporator temperature' reading is coming from then. If it's detecting the temperature after this hot/cold air mixer flap then that could make sense.

Otherwise I would have thought the evaporator temp would be the function of the ac system and be a lot colder, maybe around 2 degrees instead of 10?

I'll run the adaptation and see what difference it makes if any...

I got my compressor (etc) replaced late last year after I went from A/C to no A/C instantly. The compressor was declared dead and I had it replaced whilst the car was having some crash damage taken care of. Toowong Milton Crash Repairs did it for $1200 parts and labour (plus 6 or 12 months warranty on the work. I think it was 12 but I can't remember at the moment).

A/C system failures are a know common problem with Mk5 Golfs. Even when they're replaced/repaired, it's still not a great system (compared to Japanese cars in particular).

      MY14 Tiguan 118TSI - sold (Mazda3 SP25GT in its place)
MY16 Golf 7R: sold (Caterham Super 7 and Hyundai i30N in its place)

Hey Mattlock, yeah, it seems like AC failures are quite common with our cars.
Do you know what compressor they replaced it with? $1200 seems like an okay price for compressor replacement, inc labour and recharge.

Did you have any metal shavings in the system that needed flushing out?
Do you know if you got anything else replaced? ie. receiver/dryer, evaporator, expansion valve etc?
May need to give them a call when I'm back in Brisbane.

All I know is that the compressor had seized solid and from what I've read about the failures, it's mostly likely happened because of metal shavings binding to the shaft and jamming it. The work did include a full flush and re-gas of the system and was a replacement of the compressor and the dryer. I think the valves were left alone. It was a full parts and labour price at $1200 too.

From other threads on here, the other place that gets good reports is Mr Cool (also in Milton). I think that's where Michael at Prestige and Performance advises his customers to go. The only reason I didn't go there was because Toowong already had the car for the crash damage (which was at the back of the car and not related to the A/C failure).

Ok. Cool. Thanks for the response. My car is booked in to P&P next Friday for my annual service.

Just at night/early morning when ambient temps are low and car hasn't been in the sun the ac seems to work ok. Any other conditions- hopeless. I had everything in my previous car replaced- valves, compressor, lines, evap, condenser etc. cost about $3.5k.

When I had the RCV valve replaced on the compressor a few weeks ago they said there weren't any metal shavings in the compressor or valve. Just evacuated the system, recharge and added PAG oil.

I'll see what P&P say next week.....

Even with mine fixed, it still takes about 8-10mins to feel that the car temp is under control when it's been parked in the sun. This seems to be a 'feature' regardless!

You need the sunroof. I window part open, sunroof rear open - heat out before you've got to the second light pole...

Already have a sunroof...it's even left on tilt with windows open slightly on super hot days.
Doesn't really help that much when you drive as the ac is blowing warm/humid air, then after 30mins.

Ah. I tend not to run a/c.
Is a bit hot when temps get to 36+

not the news you want to hear, but I suppose at least you now know.
How do you rate P&P in terms of the level of service provided and cost?

Service, cost and speed is great. Second service with them to date. Both minor. Will go in for a major service next time. Going back to auto elec to get another quote for compressor replacement.

Having trouble finding a part number for the denso compressor though!!

I think these URLs should help with finding denso part number?

Ok so I've been speaking to Denso Australia and a few dealers and VW themselves who all say there is no Denso unit suitable for the R32. They're available for all MKV golfs just not for a R32.

Can that really be?? There are about 20 variants of the 7SEU16C or 7SEU17C too of which none are officially listed for a R32. Should I just take the chance and order one listed for a GTI and hope for the best?

That second like you sent shows all VW MKV compressor OEM part numbers to be interchangeable.
