Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • DSG hesitation on downshift

Hi I'm new to this site but have read a few interesting threads so far.

I own an 05 GTI with DSG and have noticed that under normal braking when the DSG changes down from say 3rd to 2nd gear or 2nd to 1st gear there seems to be a bit of hesitation..as in a bit of a jerk. I just wonder if this is normal?

    Anyone have similar experiences?

I have an 07 Jetta TDI and the downshifts 3-2 when in D with no throttle pressure are sometimes jerky. E.g. rolling up to traffic lights. I could have a dud gearbox though, I'm not sure.

I found that when rolling up to traffic lights I drop it into S (still no throttle) and get these beautiful smooth downshifts nice and early to slow me down.

      Hey Guy's
Keep searching the forum threads. I think you will find and someone may
answer this but I think there was a VW fix for the DSG. with programming.
Have the MY08 jetta and its smooth as silk.

My DSG box had similar symptoms before i got it (the gearbox) serviced, how many clicks do you have on your car?

There was also a new version of the ECU software that was allegedly going to fix something to do with DSG hesitation, dont know the status of it though.

They do get confused sometimes, it is a computer after all!! is it a consistent thing or only at some speeds/rpm etc?

          My car's done 15,000kms in 2 years.

Upshifts is very smooth and downshift is generally smooth until the car slows down to say under 30kms then I sometimes feel a bit of hesitation.

It's nothing major now but will definitely ask my dealer about it.
