Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • 18x8 with a +35 offset

Hi guys,l have bought some rims form o/s and after l asked the guy to clarify offsets he sends me a rim with a +35 offset. I wanted a +45 offset as l have 18" 225x40 rubber ready to go.

My question is has anyone ever put on an 18x8 with +35 offest on the above rubber on a mkv gti. They are hot rims, Lm305 hatmann wheels and if they look ok with those specs, l will keep them. I'm worried that they will poke out too much from the guard and look goofy. The car is not lowered and still on oem suspension. If anyone has examples of this type set up, please post up pics.

    Thanks guys.

Ahh, I have tried it & they didn't work (had my old A4 rims ready for my GTI) - stuck outside the guard by 15mm - remember that 50mm is the correct factory offset. You can always give them a try, but it didnt work for me. had to sell them & buy the correct ones.

I have 18x8 +45, I reckon the offset looks perfect with 224/40 rubber.
+35 will definitely poke out, but plenty of people run them, so it depends a bit on your preference.

When you say it stuck out from the guard by 15mm, do you mean they actually pertruded by that much from the guard edge???? Dont forget, the factory wheels are slightly in the guard in any case. I know l am pushing it, but if they did stick out from the guard edge by 15mm, then l wouldnt do it. If that 15mm was measured from the original rim location, then l would imagine that they would escape the guard edge, but not by 15mm. I know the differnece between the 2 settings is 15mm-16mm but from the original oem location and not from the guard edge.

          Any thoughts on this?

Btw, l appreciate all your comments. I know guys in the states run this set up, but l just dont want it to pertrude too much, plus l am pretty peeved the guy stuffed up after telling him on the phone about this very issue

believe me, they stuck out as to be undriveable (without major guard damage thats for sure) - try them on, if you already have them, you have nothing to lose.

Can you get wheels shaved to bring them back inside the guards??

I suppose if there is 15mm of properly engineered excess alloy there to be shaved - No idea what it would cost though & who would do it & if it would be legal - its like a reverse spacer!

Not a good idea. Most wheels don't have enough meat below the wheel nut to be able to shave 15mm. While it may look like a big spacer, take a close look at how much metal there is below the bottom of the wheel nut hole and the mounting face.

Mine are 45 offset and the tyres are pretty much in line with the guards.
35mm will poke about 10mm IMO
A few more pics close up of mine, so you can see how close they are.
They have never rubbed the guards.

They're classy!!!! I've considered them but we can't get them here, not in 18s anyway. On a side note, how did you get Hartmann to ship wheels over to Australia? I've tried but no response

They're Italian made right? I'm surprised you got ET35. They sell them in ET45 too!

Some of the US guys have ET35, but there's a lot of poke (10 mm) and they probably rolled their guards as much as possible or have the ability to dial in some negative camber so the wheels *just* tuck into the guards.

yeah the only ones here are the 19's, but l didnt want them. In any case l actually didnt get them from Hartman but from another retailer who did say they were et45, and when they came...well you know the story. Yes the wheels are Italian made, but all the guys who say they stock them are out of stock. I'm still tossing up whether to put them on or just sell them on the forums or ebay. I paid decent $$$$, not to mention the shipping cost, but l got that at cost as l work in the industry.

Yeah, they're usually reluctant to send abroad in case they are rejected and then there's the freight dispute as its a pricey component to accept if you're in the wrong. Similar to my situation. None the less l'm not sending them back as they fit perfectly on certain Audi models if l end up going down that path.

                      Cheers.
