  • New GTI Owner

Well after 4 months I finally picked up my new GTI last week after 4 weeks of waiting. I love it, and it feels so different to drive then my Astra Equipe. You can drive it crazy and you can drive it normal if you want to conserve fuel. Nice!

I have one question regarding plates. I have Euro plates ordered, and they will be replacing the slim white plates that were put onto the GTI. However they put screw holes in the furtherest holes in the white plates. I noticed some Euro's on another car and they only had one set of holes on them which didn't line up with where my screw holes have been screwed in! Can someone clarify with me if the new Euro's also have extra screw holes or am I going to have to screw another set of holes into my car, which I certainly want to avoid at all cost!! I hope that makes sense.

Below is my new My08 GTI

Congrats on the GTI - looks just like mine

I asked the dealer to put my slimlines on with double-sided tape. It must be pretty secure, as they had to bend the hell out of the old plates when removing them - also secured with the tape.

Excellent! I'll give the double sided tape a go if the holes don't line up.

BTW i'm going for a holiday drive to Tasmania early next year. Are there any roads you can suggest that are great to drive on?

Boy, so many - here's some of my favourites: Launceston - Scottsdale - ST Helens; St Helens - Orford; Hobart - Strathgordon; The entire West Coast - esp. Roseberry - NW Coast.

Basically, steer clear of the midlands highway and you'll have a ball. Be aware, though that 98 RON is not universally available - check the fuel finder on BP's site for availability.

                  Euro plates

                  Congrats on the new car

I ordered a set of euro plates and have had them delivered waiting for my car...boy its been a long wait!

The euro plates have no holes and will need to be drilled for installation.

                  Hope this helps.

Oh, no holes. Thats good to hear. I had decided to drill my own into them anyway, legal or not. Just have to take a drill to the RTA now!

                      Cheers all!!

Hi, better let us know when you are coming down to Tas, closer to the event and at least I would like to meet up and go for a drive somewhere. By the way, I wasted a tyre on the west coast in a pothole!! Lucky it wasnt with the 18in BBS's.
                        Cheers, Andrew
