Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Will Velos wheels fit a GTI?

Hi everyone, I just bought a 2008 GTI and am looking to replace the heavily scratched Denver wheels on it.
I like the look of VW Velos wheels (off a Passat / Eos), but am not sure if they will fit my GTI correctly.
I understand that Denver are 225/45-17 and 7" wide with a 51mm offset, whilst the Velos are 235/40-18 and 8" wide with a 44mm offset.
    Can anyone please assist?

PS - I also like the Zolder style off the R32 which I’m sure will fit fine, but haven't seen many around second hand...

I have that spec on my GTi - (R36 rims, not the Velos), but I run mine with a 225/40 R18 tyres (rims are also 18x8 ET44) rather than the 235. The 225 are stretched a bit on there, but sit very nicely - the guys at the tyre place reckoned that they sat perfectly. Do tend to kick up a lot more road grime because of the stance though, but I think it's worth it.

      Thanks 99_FGT,
i assume that the extra 10mm on a 235 tyre wont make much of a difference...
      Nice wheels by the way...
