I’m finally picking up my Tdi 2.0 on Monday… I’ve noticed that a lot of you talk positively about your “hand over’s”… As I was at sea for the handover of my Ford Territory back in 04 (the wife broke it in) I was hoping you could assit me in what to expect and what would be good to ask…
    Cheers…

    Hand over

I work in a new car dealership.

We are constantly delivering new cars to proud owners.

When i bought my first new car (04 ford fiesta) it was parked out on the road which sorta didnt feel too special.

When i picked up my new VW it was parked in the showroom, and i felt like a king

Everyone in the dealership was completely busy when i arrived at the pre-specified time. The sales manager approached me and introduced herself (Barloworld VW mascott) appologised on behalf of the salesman who was signing up a new client.

She showed me to my car and asked me to entertain myself. Which seriously i didnt mind at all. The car was beautifully clean and very well presented (just like every new car should be) so i had a good look around it, under the bonnet, sat in the gorgeous sports leather seats and just generally had a look around the dealership for 15-20 minutes.

We just went through the paper work, bit of chit chat, showed me through the books very briefly.
Now i dont know about everyone else, but i dont think a half an hour run through of the car is needed. As i was driving back from sydney to newcastle they showed me how to use the cruise control, they showed me where the fuel lid was and how to open it. Power windows, mirrors and waved goodbye.

They moved it out of the showroom for me (because showrooms can be a bit squishy at times !!!) and i drove on out and home.

I suppose it depends on the type of person you are.
I know a lot of people expect to be treated like royalty with fan fair when
      picking up the car.
For me it was just tell me the basics and let me get out of there.

You will learn more on this forum and in the car manual than any dealer.
And by the way, you will love the car.
      neil.

        Sorry mitch gti
        You posted just before me
I was not referring to you in my statement re" People wanting to be treated
like royalty" regarding your statement re "Felt like a king"

          hahaha thats okay !!!

reason i said i felt like a king was the difference in presentation from my first new car (ford, parked on the street) to the VW parked in the middle of the showroom.

THAT and only that was what made me feel like a king. Just really excited and proud of my new car and that i paid for it with my own money, no loans, nothing. Just hard earnt !
I had been waiting for ages, riding a push bike to and from work, riding my bike to my second job at night, riding home at midnight in the pouring down rain.
Seeing my new car in the showroom filled me with joy lol

I actually got to drive my Jetta out of the showroom! Damn well stalled it in the showroom too!
Also had the big reveal when the Sales Consultant unveiled the Jetta from under a car cover. He then spent about 1 1/2 hr going through the controls in the car, the manual and service reqts. He also insisted I look around the car for any anomalies. Found a hand print smudge and he went and got a clean cloth to buff it off! Also intro'd me to the Service Mgr!

I was every impressed with my Dealer. I sincerely hope you are too! And no I'm not in the Motor Industry. I work for an FMCG company. Good luck!

I got treated very well at L'pool last friday when I picked up my GT sport tdi,
The salesman went through all the books with me and the mrs, and then showed me the basics in the car, by the way if your buying a new gt sport you are going to be blowin away with the car as I am

                  Regards Kerry
