  • CEL MKV GTI - Possible injectors?

    Hey,

So about a month ago my GTI through up a CEL and when I took it to the local dealer (I was out of state) they reported it back as the charcoal canister. On investigation they found no issue so cleared the code assuming it was spurious.

For 3 weeks the light disappeared and then it returned so I booked it in to a specialist who diagnosed the problem as the PCV and then replaced that.

However the light has returned and the specialist has reported that the PCV is the first thing they change on the code but if that doesn't fix it then they have been finding that changing the injectors out solves the problem. This obviously isn't cheap, especially as I will be looking at selling it soon.

Has anyone here experienced similar of this? I wonder if an injector cleaner might solve it

see what fault it has logged again if its throwing up charcoal canistor fault i would replace it and the evap/charcoal canistor purge valve solanoid valve. the canistor is expensive but takes 10minutes to fit the valve is a little more tricky but all up shouldnt take any longer than an hour and half labour for canistor and valve so about $500 all up if it was injectors would be faulting all the time. with age these are the 3 main things to fail pcv valve charcoal canistor and evap charcoal canistor solonoid valve. once these have been replaced you shouldnt have much more problems if you do they will be major.

If it were an injector, the car would have a missfire under load.

Yep it's definitely not misfiring or running rough at all which was one of the reasons I had my doubts about it being injectors.

A quick check of the error code again today found it to still be throwing the charcoal canister/evap valve error but it's intermittent. Couldn't get it the diagnostics to find fault with the valve but I'll just order one and replace it myself as it's cheap and looks easy enough to do.

        Thanks!

Now I just need to find the cheapest place to get it from. ECS Tuning has it for $17 but charge $48 shipping... That brings it close to the $70 local price

Mine has been doing this for over a year. I don't have a PCV valve and have changed injectors since it started occuring. Ignore...
