  • Rear wiper replacement

    Hey guys,

I tried looking this up eveyrwhere but could not find anything solid.
My rear wiper blade needs to be replaced, just the rubber really but the dealership gave me a new stick + rubber.

Problem - how does the rear wiper piece (piece = rubber + stalk) come off the metal arm on the rear wiper?
I've tried to take it off but didn't want to snap anything.

    Thanks.

The end of the arm has a small plastic piece that pops out a bit, allowing you to slide the insert/blade assembly off the pivot.

The plastic end cap should just pop right out with a little force. Its a nice feeling when you do get it replaced, no more screeching when you put it in reverse.

Ok, I have to tackle this over the weekend.

Unfortunately the dealer refused to do this when the Caddy went in for its 45,000 km service! Never really been happy with the service department there.

So, I've bought two runner inserts for the windscreen wipers, and a replacement blade and carrier for the rear.

The front ones are just rubber blades with two replacement end caps each. I've located some instructions on the web.

The windscreen ones seem straightforward if a little fiddly, but the rear one is not so clear.

One lot of information says you lift the arm and blade off the glass, then you further rotate the blade on the pivot by 90 degrees and it should release. As with all these things, it is doing it for the first time that is the issue. How much force in the problem.

I've tried to do a search for some instructions, but can't find any on the web.

            Any ideas or tips?

            Thanks

Did them all this afternoon. Seeing the video on the rear one was good as I knew how it was supposed to happen. You do have to pull quite hard.

On the fronts, it was not too bad either. A bit fiddly if you do not know what to do.

Just a tip, if you do not want the hassle of doing the fronts yourself, you can get a fully fitted set of front and rear blade assemblies that are very simple to install from Wipertech. Here is the link for the Caddy. The prices are not that bad either. If I had not already bought the inserts, I'd probably have got the ones from Wipertech as they were only around $10 more but were a full assembly.

                Just one word of caution.

Be very careful when putting the arm back down on the screen. If you are not careful and it hits the screen, it will crack it (no, I didn't crack mine, courtesy of some socks I put over them )
