  • GT Sport TSI 1.4L 2007

Hey all, kinda new to this forum and golf's in general...

I just bought a 2007 1.4L GT Sport in silver, 1 old lady owner who had no idea that she was driving a supercharged turbo, and has decided to sell me her car since she was told by the RTA she is too blind to drive... So i guess ive been blessed with a mint car!

Anyways, down to the fun stuff, I just ordered some eibach springs...

Im looking at what DIY stuff I can do to the airbox, as well as any other quick and easy DIY's that are availible for GT Sports...

I also want to know, that when im ordering things for the GT Sport, such as sway bars etc since there isnt much stuff out there in regards to GT Sports, is it the same set ups for GTI's ?

    Thanx

    Search for threads by Polarbear.

Best bang4buck mod is a remap. There are plenty of choices out there.

Best handling improvement (IMO) is sticky tyres. If your car is 5 yrs old with OEM tyres then they'll be getting pretty hard by now.

Who on earth bought the car for her? Good luck with the mods, would also recommend a remap.

Welcome and congrats on your GT
I wouldn't bother with cutting up the airbox as you'll likely end up sucking in hot air, the stock ones apparently flow quite well and there's numerous tuned GTs out there with the stock airbox (around 150kW region).
If you want some more noise, check out the Forge Motorsport CAI and offerings from several other companies (eg BMC, Simota, K&N etc) that should remain legal as they're fully enclosed and come with ducting to pick up cold air behind the left hand bumper grille Forge Motorsport | Alloy Fabrication

The stock air box has more holes in it than a cheese grater - most of them opening into the engine compartment. I don't get as worried about the effect of hot air ending up in the intake.

The Forge (in Paul's post) is a good off-the-shelf solution if you want to fiddle with the cold air intake.
Another way is to duplicate the Forge system with alloy and/or silicone pipework and using either an in-line filter as per the Forge (like a Modshack) or a cone style filter on the end of the pipework like a K&N.

You can then decide whether to run it entirely inside the engine compartment, or into the passenger side wheelwell (as in Paul's pic.).
With that latter system, you can also terminate the filter directly behind an open fog light grille (like an R-line grille or an open style GTI grille). Some folks will argue that it will ingest water this way (I don't) so you'll need to decide for yourself.

There's also a third way I guess. Duplicate the TwinTake system and have two air intake positions: one in the stock position, and another behind the fog light. Join them via a T-piece forward of an in-line filter. That would pretty much negate any suction effect of water entering via the fog light intake.

Has anyone remapped a GT Sport ? and if so, what was the gain ?

                Also, any recommendations...

Ive looked at the bluefin superchip, but i dont really know too much about this sort of stuff, so if anyone can school me in it it would be much appreciated...

As for what ive done so far, the CAI is in, and ive just ordered some eibach springs so they should be here in the next few days, the other thing im looking at is the MILLTEK Cat-back Non-resonated system, again any recommendations would be helpful...
And also, i should be ripping out the sound insulation on the supercharger considering a bunch of different forums have recommended to do this as it adds a bit of power by helping keep the supercharger cooler and allowing better flow of cold air through it.

plenty of remap threads on this forum.

Suggest you ring around & decide what you are comfortable spending. I run Bluefin because it was cheapest & I can return to stock in <5 minutes

And sorry im a bit lost when u say you can return to stock in <5 minutes, did u do the install yourself ? or is it just a plug and play sort of thing that can be done quickly...

Happy for the cost of it. It's a generic tune. I'm sure the more expensive tunes would give more power but the Bluefin suited my situation at the time.

It's installed/removed with a handheld controller through the ODB port.

There are a million threads about tunes on this forums. I'd suggest you have a read & also talk to the tunas.

You have the 125kw twincharger. I don't think there's a real lot left in them. 140kw/290Nm????

I think Brad's right…20 – 25 kW would be as much as I'd expect from a chip only.
Maybe another 8 or 10 with a good pipe & CAI...
But unless you want to start putting bigger puffers & blowers on it, that'd be it.

Not that that's a bad thing - they're a pretty swift thing stock, and another 10% power isn't anything to sneeze at (190bhp).

If you want to go completely sik, take a look on uk-mkivs.

                        There's a guy aiming for 500bhp with one , and a few others who've hit 300bhp
He's at 390bhp @ 1.9bar ATM with no supercharger (he's having a few issues with the dyno!)

I suggest you start with page 1:
