  • Tyres for the GOLF 2.0 TDI 2006

Here's a quick one ... advice please. I am up for a new set of tyres ... 4th at 160000. I have always run Continental Premium Contact, but thinking of a change. They're a good tyre I believe, but how about Michelin or any others. Main proviso ... tyres should run quietly, be safe and economical. Any thoughts appreciated!

Look at the Tire rack thread in the wheels and tyres thread in here. They have reviews and surveys and you can select forr the most popular tyre in a size.
On pretty much the same preferences I replaced Conti Contacts with Continental Extreme Contact DW and am very happy. I think that the tyres are quieter- certainly the wind noise is more marked, and their wear rating is higher. Cheaper too.

If they are 16inch rims on your Golf, I can recommend Yokohama 'C' drive!

My Jetta has the standard Atlanta 16" rims with a 205/55/16.

The first set of 'C' drives got 59,000km and now on a 2nd set. Although the new ones are the latest version 'C' drive2. I've had these 2 mths and done just on 4,00km so far. These were $200 each but got them at a good price as I was a repeat customer. I'm very happy with the wet grip level too considering the torque our diesels put to the road.

These are quieter again then the 1st set.

I found the original Conti Sport Contact 2 very noisy. And only got 48,000km from them.

Between the Contis and the 1st Yokie set I ran some Dunlop SP2000A that were quiet but were more expensive and also got 48,000k for them. These Dunlops have now been superseded by a different tread pattern.

Thanks guys. I've 15" standard alloys, so any difference? I'll look at Tire Rack. Cheers!
