  • Mk5 window regulators

Took the door trims off my GTI yesterday to have the windows tinted. Noticed that there isnt very much room to remove the window regulators if and when they pack up. The motors arent an issue but I am not sure whether the outer door skin would have to be unbolted and removed to replace the rest.
I will find out in time but people, take care of those regulators!!!!
    Cheers, Andrew

wow thats interesting! There is no way a reg could come out of that side!
is there much involved in getting the trims off without damaging them? Ive been thinking of removing my own b4 taking the car to the butchers err i mean tinters.

Theres not too much involved Tim. The rear and lhf handles, the piece facing you unclips and comes off straight towards you. The rhf switch panel lifts straight up. There are Torx bolts behind them. Also are smaller Torx along the bottom and the fronts have a screw up near the mirror section of the panel. The clips stay in the doors when you remove the panels so they need to be removed and placed back in the trim before reassembly. Disconnect the various wires. There are so many to the rhf one so I left that one sitting in situe so they only have to sit it down while they do that window. And they can use the switch to raise and lower the other windows to do the job.
The door pull cables disconnect very easilt as well.

It's very easy to remove the door skin. Around 15mins to get it off.
Just be careful because some of the screw are longer than others and maybe puncture the doorskin if used in the wrong areas.
