Hey everyone. Just wondering what people would do if they were in my position. I personally would prefer to spend as least as possible. but i am always willing to put in a bit more if it is really worth it

GTI or Perelli. Is it really worth it spending the extra money ??

GTI or R32.

Pirelli for me. A little rarer than a standard R32 and GTI, more tunable too. Not sure but I think they run a K04?
R32 if your happy with stock outputs but you will need deep pockets to get more power and GTIs for price (and you can tune them for not much)

I got a Pirelli as they are a little more exclusive with IMO a nicer interior and a few extra features. The Pirelli does run the K04 turbo and has a destined version of the Audi S3 engine. VW then used the Pirelli engine to develop the Golf R engine.

Is the extra price worth it? IMO yes, if you are looking to do a turbo upgrade down the track get it as standard. A stage 1 tune then gives you approx 170kw atw...

Just my 2 cents as iLife the Pirelli!

there are Pirelli's on carsales for under 30k...

a quick search has shown a 5dr with 65,000kms for $28k.
for similar kms a standard 5dr GTI DSG sells for around 22-25k.

R32 (looking at around 31-32k) - totally different ball game. the $$ difference is not enough to be a deciding factor - go test grive one of each and buy the one you like the most.

Thanks for all the replies people. I really do like the extra features on the Pirelli . Correct me if I'm wrong . The Pirelli seats have the cloth material running through the middle of the seats right. That's one thing that annoys me ....IMO why couldn't they make it full leather..... Lol.

R32 has AWD... that'd be the deciding factor for me.
Hence why I drive an R32 haha Mk4 though. And I'm a P-plater so turbo wasn't really an option.

But I still maintain that AWD would be the deal sealer for me

As for the R32, you can justify it many ways (no doubt it's a sweet car) - but not financially. Compared to the GTI, it's that much more a discretionary purchase.

Yep, my post says destined and should have been detuned... Obviously there are very minor differences between the 3 engines which is bespoke to each car... Other wise with a stage 1 tune I should be able to drag an R due to the weight differences although an R would have me off the line...

Bigger isnt always better, K04 has more lag. I managed to get 161kwatw out of mymkv gti thats done 167,000km and I havent even done the HPFP tune yet! Oh and look for the early gti c2005 with the AXX engine, it has all forged internals.

R32! Its the more unique of the 3, a golf with a v6 + awd is not likely to be ever made again, so you should enjoy one before they get too old.

I do like the Pirelli but just couldn't live with those tire print seats, and even though it may have a detuned S3/ R engine it will never be as fast due to it being FWD, it is only marginally quicker then the stock GTI. IMO it makes a lot more financial sense to purchase a GTI and chip it.

I had a MK V R32 DSG till recently....loved it. Gearbox was lighting quick. Launch control got you off the line in the blink of an eye and the AWD stuck like glue around corners even in the rain on the greasy streets of Melbourne. And to top it off nothing beats the exhaust notes from that amazing little V6. Have a listen to that youtube clip.

As soon as money permits I want to get another R32, but this time I think I'm going to get a manual MK4....just for something different.

hi all... i am thinking (debating) to sell my 06 MK5 GTI - black 4dr DSG leather sunroof sat nav...
With mods - 18" dtm wheels, hpa kw coilovers, osir spoiler, R32 tail lights....

i need some advise and hear what other forum members think about this...
Should i REMOVE all my mods and sell as STOCK ... or should i sell as it is???

i couldnt find any thread to discuss about this.. and thought i might just use the same title as this OP.

there is a trend of people selling mk5 and price is getting to be around $20-25K now....
i just couldnt decide myself what should i do... but i thinking to upgrade to other cars like rocco or s5 ....

any advise or opinions would be appreciated... cheers!
