  • The old dreaded 60,000km service...

Hmm booked in for tomorrow, called a few dealerships, seems the same, quoted $1,400 for the 60,000km major service on my MK5 GT TDI....

Good times, and well done to the seller of the car for doing it before the major service haha..

Does it have DSG gearbox. My local dealer has said its ok to leave gearbox oil till 75,000 as it is much smaller service so you can spread the cost.
MY13 Golf R - Rising Blue ** SOLD** New toy wanted
MY12 Passat 125TDi Wagon - Reflex Silver (The family wagon)
MY14 Amarok Trendline TDi400 - Sand Beige (weekend off roader)

That info from dealer is not correct!!!!
You should follow the recommended service schedule!!!! If by any chance you have a DSG issue wty can reject you claim if you have not followed the service schedule.

Yes it does have DSG gearbox. Its on 68,000km atm too. So it's probably nearing that anyway?

Well it's actually at 68,000 because the Renault dealer we bought it from reset the service clock because they put in oil.

How can i know anyway? What they should be doing.

Should be in the front of the service book what is to be carried out at each service.

I had a read, seems it's because its a transmission service as well.
I did call up however and had it reduced to $1200 as a discount on parts and labour.

Just spoke to a mate at Dwyers VW in Bairnsdale (3hrs east of melbourne).

60k service on TDi should include
              oil & filter change
              Fuel filter
              pollen filter
              DSG oil and Filter
              Brake fluid changed
              full diagnostic test.

He said should be around $850-900.

Good question for cars that are sold 2nd hand at non VW dealers. Common sense should prevail and the tech who worked on the car should have ticked the appropriate boxes in the service book for what was done. If they have not ask for receipt of the work carried out and if it's not on there then you probably need to do whatever has not been done. If the dealer told you it has been done but there's no proof you'll need to sort it out with them!!!

Also resetting the service reminder has no bearing on DSG service regardless it should be done at 60,000km

                  Gday!

For that sort of discount, it's nearly worth driving there for the day.

Can you find out from your mate how much they charge for the VW 60K service?

What year model car are we talking about? any Golf thats 2007 or older must require a timing belt change regardless of the kms. I would say the op has been quoted the 60k service + timing belt, as 1.4k is pretty much what you would pay for a timing belt + DSG + service.

Really? I was advised that for my MKV 2.0 TDI this has been revised to 7 years or 105,000 Kms.

Not so sure about that. I got quoted $1395 by vw dealer but paid $1040 by Prestige and Performance for the 60,000km which was done on Friday just gone. The service book does not mention timing belt at those kms or time.

Exactly, you got quoted 1.4k from a dealer which is what I was referring. Any independent will be much cheaper, mine was $850 inc timing belt + water pump, but no dsg service (manual).

The service book never refers to time to replace a timing belt, but like any moving part it gets old with age and driving around with an old timing belt is risky. The service schedule for the MKV was revised to every 4 years which actually means any golf 2008 or older should have had the belt changed, if you have any doubts just contact your local dealer.

Just all fluids including DSG service.
Got it down to $1200 though.
