  • Jetta lower number plate mounting.

    First pic of my car.
    Hope pic's turn out ok.
Second pic of how I was able to mount the plate.
Took about half hour to make.

Two strips of aluminum about 2 mm thick. sprayed mat black.
you need it thin to be able to force the stainless screw into the
smaller drilled holes so the screw can make its own cut. (hope that makes
sense). Make sure you cut the screws into the plate first and then remove.
You also need two holes drilled into the bottom of the number plate.
Place brackets at the back of the grill with one hand, align plate and tighten.
If you drop the bracket inside the grill you will need to undo the bottom
stone guard as no hand will fit into the grill .( yes it happened to me)

Pic looked better before hiding the letters on the number plate.
Why do we have to hide the plate.???

Its not compulsory to hide your numberplate some members just do that to keep their privacy.

If you wish to show us your number plate Neil thats fine with us, if you don't thats also fine with us its entirely a personal decision.

BTW your Jetta looks odd with numberplate where its sitting.

I think it will grow on me congrats on saving the shiny bit from being drilled

yeah i think its silly to hide the number plate i mean sheesh i display it on my car everyday.

i like the look of what you've done, it seems silly to hide all that nice chrome under an ugly numberplate.

one question - will that restrict airflow into the intercooler (is yours a tdi or tfsi?) or the radiator if its an fsi? if not then i might do that to mine...

          I have the TDI.
When I picked the car up from chatswood the code for the Radio would not
work, we had to take the car to the service centre at Artarman.
My dealer asked the service technicians if they would have anything to
mount the plate on the lower grill. They looked for a while but had nothing.
They did not seem to have a problem with where I wanted to put it.

Another member on this site gave me the idea as he has his mounted in
the same place and its the euro plate. He just used cable ties.
Not sure I would like the euro as its much larger and would restrict the
air flow even more. Not sure which engine he had.

My dealer asked for a few pic's of how I have mounted it as he has had a
number of people asked about putting the plate lower.

Are you getting yours from Chatswood classic?.

yep if it ever bloody gets here. end of the month fingers crossed.

i think i might give it a go, but maybe on the front spoiler (just below the grille) so it'd be even lower and less conspicuous... might have to try and fab up some sort of plastic mount though.

that is of course, providing that the gt sport doesnt have a recess for mounting the plate where it usually goes. yours looks great.

I thought about these brackets first.
It would be easy enough to make them and all you would need is
to mount the bracket to the underside of the bumper, so no need to
disfigure the front bumper in case you want to take if back off later.

Looks neat. I wasn't so smart about asking the dealer ahead of time, so I have two holes in my chrome so plate is always there.

I ordered slim-euro for the front of mine, it's not too bad.

hook up the plate to the lower grill with cable ties.

I have the TDI, not sure if I would do it to a fsi or turbo.
Again as mentioned the dealer or mechanics did not seem to have a problem
with me placing the plate in the lower grill.
Check out the new 207 Peugeot and they have placed there plate in front
                        of the lower grill.

theres plenty of room for air flow to go through that area and other areas of the engine bay to cool the radiator.

for example, a front mount intercooler would block more air space on a radiator than a licence plate
