Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Welcome!

You are very welcome as you are our very first Golf 5 owner. And you chose the diesel! My spies tell me that the majority of Golf 5 buyers make the same choice that you did. It's good to see. Posts are a bit thin in this forum so we look forward to your impressions, comparisons and conclusions. Oz needs more turbo diesels (in my humble opinion) and good on ya! (Geez this post reeks of bias, sorry Guys!) I came within an ace of buying a Golf 5 Tdi but a sudden and unexpected cut in our income stream denied me. Buy more goat cheese!!!

        Thanks for the welcome!

other than the dsg and reflex silver paint, it is a stock standard tdi comfortline model. i do have genuine mats. the bonnet protector, mudflaps, and headlight protectors are on order hehehe. they are going in on Friday.

i now wish i had been able to wait a little longer (the purchase was more or less spontaneous) and order one with esp and sat nav. i wonder if i can get it fitted now?? - it is two weeks old.

i travelled 450km to my nearest dealer, he sorta had what i wanted there. 12 hours over two days of haggling had me in my car. he worked very very hard for his money

anyways, other than an mp3 cd stacker (an fm transmitter will do for the next couple days), 16 or 17 inch rims (i think 18s are too much), some skirts for front, rear and the sides i have no immediate plans. although i would love to get the esp and sat nav happening too...

as for messing with the performance, i have no plans. it pumps out 103kw of power and 320 nm of torque. this is more than enough for the moment. i had read that a mod-chip could get it pumping out 140kw and 400Nm of torque... but then i had also heard/read that the DSG box is only rated to 360/380nm - so what's the point.

I have around 750km on the odometer. i am still very happy with the car. mechanically i cannot fault it. build finish is another story.

so far i have found a more than a couple of things that really had me shaking my head; In the front passenger wheel well the plastic edge (liner ?) has been trimmed rough, the panel sealant (glue??) is messy near the front jack point on the passenger side, i had to tuck some black cotton wrapped harness back into/under the driver side door trim (near the little red reflector on the outer edge), minor paint defects X 5 (spots), bad fitment of the rubber dust seal on the driver side door at the bottom, bad in-house/dealer tint...

anyways. other than that i love the damn thing. i would encourage anyone that is looking at the 2.0 FSI to take a 2.0 TDI for a lap. The FSI has slightly longer legs, but the TDI will get you there with a bigger grin!

103kW and 320nm on the 2.0 TDI Vs. 110kw and 200nm on the 2.0 FSI

I know which one i had more fun test driving. It is a good thing ASR (traction control) comes standard...

                  Hi & welcome,

The 2.0 TDI Golf is my favorite too! I would think it's possible to add the esp, as it would work in conjunction with the ABS, so it's probably just a plug in module.

Brackie, what brand is your goat's cheese? As a thank you for hosting this site, we should all buy your cheese! Might get that new tdi over the line!!!

Virtually every new Golf I see in Sydders is A TDI, people must be taking the fuel crisis seriously.

Watch "Catalyst" on the ABC at 8pm tonight. I reckon people are starting to wake up to Peak Oil.

I doubt it! (Sorry Guys...This is off-topic and as Site Admin. I should be ashamed of myself....But, you asked!) Our brand is "Mathom Farm" http://www.mathomfarm.com.au/cheeses.htm and we are just starting to break into the mainland. My mrs went to WA last week and we are now going to supply "The Restore" in N Perth. "European Foods" will come later. We can ship quantities of >1kg overnight to the mainland in refrigerated bags. Our jars of marinated goat feta make ideal, cheap Christmas gifts. For a review go to http://www.inapickle.biz/index2.html and look at January 2005. All of our other goat milk goes to make "Southcape" goat cheeses.

Thanks for the thanks, Peter! It's nice to get some appreciation
