  • Drivers door LED update.

I had the module replaced in August as per VW to fix the problem with the LED on the drivers door staying on when the car was unlocked and it has since happened again. I sent the repairing dealer an email regarding this and this was the response I got....

"VW Australia Technical say replacing this control unit won’t solve the problem. At best, it may improve only in the short term – say 3 to 6 months. Their testing shows that as long as the remote key button is pressed as the light flashes to the “on” position, it will stay on until the next lock / unlock cycle. Their advice is to not replace this control unit, but to cycle the locking / unlocking if the light stays on."

    Interesting....

Translation anyone? Makes no sense to me...how can the replacing the control unit work for 3 to 6 months if the control unit is not the problem

I have my MKV TDI in for 30,000 service today and have pointed out this problem to the service tech again and that it is a known problem. I also told them about it at the 15,000 service but they couldn't find a problem. I'm going to take in the US Technical Service Bulletin about this problem when I go and pick up the car this afternoon to show them that it has been a problem in the USA and see what they say...

I also don't understand how the module can't be at fault if a new module can fix the problem but only for a few months....what the????

Oh....I get it......the unit is at fault and they don't have a real fix so they want to save money by not replacing the faulty units because they know the problem will reoccur

In good old fashioned terminology it's a fob off!

Update: before i could drag out the copy of the US TSB The service tech said that the problem I described and mentioned the bulletin about was for EUROPE and did not affect Aussie cars. He then went on to say that they tested my unit anyway and surprise surprise if it wasn't faulty They had a module in stock and replaced it...thankfully I took both my keys in with me and they are both set up and so far it all seems to be working fine...

Simply it is about the sequence of events. If 2 events happen at the same time, unlock and flashing LED the result is that the light stays on. The fix is that you unlock with the key and then it only happens again when the 2 events coincide.

I have had my module replaced, and also my remote replaced and this still, on the odd occasion, occurs.

I am more worried about the hesitation under acceleration....
