    hey guys,

i've been trying to launch my golf, i have traction control off and im reved upto 2500rpm. Everytime i dropped the clutch, the car shuts off for a second(like its stalled), and then it goes off at bout 1000rpm.

can i get some advise on luaching please?

    Davo,

Firstly, you should try and be careful with the car; it isn't designed for repeated clutch dumps.

Secondly, unless there is something wrong with the engine or tuning, it is quite possible the car actually did pretty much stall.

I'm guessing you were holding part throttle to keep it at 2500rpm - you should realize that in doing so, you are generating hardly any torque even though the rpm's seem high.

The technique is to pump the throttle (ie. full throttle on/off) so that the revs would be oscillating say between 2500-2800rpm (the range can be narrower if you can pump the throttle very rapidly); this places load on the engine which allows the turbo to hold a few psi of boost.

Then, on the upswing; ie. during the pump of the throttle, you let out the clutch - "dropping" the clutch isn't the best thing to do, in terms of possible damage to your clutch/gearbox/driveshafts, etc. but you will need to experiment with this to find what works best. Some people suggest to have the clutch depressed to just below the engagement point while you are pumping the throttle, and to let out the clutch with your leg, ie... don't side step the clutch.

    Just becareful!

To prevent damage to the trans, some people recommend having the handbrake up and the clutch ever so slightly engaged so it's slipping. This loads the engine up, spooling the turbo while the handbrake holds the car stationary. It also preloads the transmission, reducing the shock/impact loading on the transmission.

As above, dropping the clutch, while fun, is not something the VAG engineers designed the car for. It's better to release the clutch, let it slip slightly and then fully engage it. It mitigates wheels spin as well as taking care of the drivetrain.

          you need a WOT box

I just had my car go in for its 15K service, there was a recall on my model of Golf, the turbo was cutting out when taking off because it was incorrectly thinking that too much power was going to the engine. They just updated the software and added a spacer somewhere on the turbo. This has fixed it.
