Near Purchase, Independent Specialist/Head Unit Install advice pls

Hi There

I'm a noob in the VW world and also in Sydney, I moved here in Nov last year. I'm in the market for a Mk V GTi Golf and came across this forum via google. I've found a car that seems a little too keenly priced to be true so I want to get it inspected by a well respected Independent that knows his onions. I live in Alexandria and want to stay as local as possible. If it's the right independent I'll get them to do the APR Stage 1 ECU flash as well.

Calling on your collective wisdom, who is the nearest, well respected, independent specialist to Alexandria who can do a pre-purchase inspection?

My second question relates to getting a Head unit/fascia kit installed (Alpine INA-W910) and would be curious to know who does good work on this near Alexandria. I'm not saying I'm not prepared to travel for the right person, but I want to stay as local as possible. I've found Auto Acoustics - HOME - - , a one man band close to me, does anyone have any experience? I'm getting quoted somewhere in the vicinity of $2300 for supply and install including steering wheel control, fascia kit and son.

These are really the only two mods I'm looking at doing in the short term. The next thing is for me to spend some time behind the wheel and drive the thing

Usually the guys are pretty open with info mate, not sure what is happening.... if you were in Melbourne, we'd look after you.

No noob treatment on this forum, we are a friendly bunch (most of the time). Sometimes a post can be missed.

For a mechanic, VW Village in Kensington is the closest to you. Few members on here use them, haven't myself so I can't comment on their work.

As for the head unit, Cronulla Car Sound at Kirrawee have done some work for me and family members in the past with no dramas.

No worries, all good. My googling has come up with Muller and Muller as the closest I can find and the guy seems pretty good on the phone. The most supportive has been Volksmuller but they're the other side of Sydney from me..

Ahh, thanks for the tips - much appreciated. I'm no stranger to forums and google but there's no substitute for local knowledge and word of mouth recommendations.

I've done a deal on the car. It's conditional on it passing the pre-purchase inspection etc and if that goes according to plan I'll have a red GTi Mk V Golf next week. Can't wait and I'm acting like a little kid over it! It'll be a nice drive, especially after the ECU flash... grrr

also (long shot) there was the Audi specialist in Waterloo - not sure if they are still there though. That was years ago.
