    Impressed very impressed

Car now has a grand total of 164 km.

    MY08 Blue graphite DSG TDI

Handover went well and received my gift box of goodies, champagne etc.

Drizzled rained most of the way and the wiper's worked the auto magic.

Was worried the blue graphite color would show the dirt but after the
trip from Sydney to the c.coast in rain the car still looks like it was, when
    in the showroom.
My salesman did say the pearl effect models do not seem to show the dirt
    like others.

Most of the distance is on the freeway and kept to the speed of around
100 and 110 and got an average of 5.5L/100km. People that know the Sydney
to Newcastle freeway know there is a number of steep hills, which you would
think would effect the fuel economy,so I'm impressed with the 5.5 on a new car
Should I expect to get better than this when it's finally run in ?.

DSG. I have made the right choice.
Silky smooth. I know a few others who have mentioned a few problems with
smoothness in changes, but this thing is just impressive.

Squeaks and rattles... not one.... I have spent 6 months reading problems
regarding this issue... so in a funny way I feel like I have missed out on
something. I have been curious to know what they sound like.

One disappointment.. and that is the road noise and would like others to
    comment on this please.
The vehicle has the standard Continental sportcontact 2 205/55 R16.
The faster you travel the noisier the tyres become.
The funny thing is... when on the cement freeway the tyres are quiet but
when you change to the smooth ashfelt the noise increases, can't work
that one out as with all other cars I have had it's around the other way.
The c.coast is mainly made up with sprayed wet tar and then the stones
layed over the tar and the noise from the tyres on this type of road is
    even greater again.
Has anyone had an issue with road noise.
Could this be the MYO8 tyre choice ... does all the MY07 have this type
    of tyre.
Have always had Micheline of pirelli so continental are new to me.

Has not been a good couple of days to take any pic's.
I will put up another post with some pics as today I fitted the front number
plate. I insisted the dealer leave the front plate off as I have now fitted
it to the lower grill and have the full chrome exposed which I think looks
    better.
It took about half hour to make up two aluminum bracket to place
at the back of the grill and four screws to hold the plate on.

So... looking forward to getting out there and racking up a few K's
    Neil.

Congrats Neil. I know those central coast roads well and the F3. It's been a while since I've been up that way - have they finaly finished it off yet?

Not too sure about the tyre noise.

    I hope you enjoy.

        awsome congrats on the purchase.

how come its got 16's on it? you buy them from teh dealer? tyre noise wise i have thought to myself that mine is slightly noisy (also running the eagle nct5's in 195 65 15) but not overly so :S i hate them though, so far ive had 2 tyres out of 4 have had sidewall damage (not caused by impact) i think they're **** to be honest, stick to the conti's or if you're after extra mileage, my friend got 100000 out of his michelins

anyway regarding fuel consumption, yes it will get better with time, but you probably wont get much lower than about 5.3 - 5.5ish if you travel at 120km/h. another note on fuel that you've probably already picked up on- stick to bp diesel, by far the cleanest and most efficient one you can use, and the difference is VERY noticeable.

its a great car you've got, nice to see another happy dubber

        regards, michael.

          Nice one Neil.
Congratz on the car finally arriving. Good to hear that it's worth the wait.

If it's worth ur 4 month wait, it'll definitely be worth by 2 month one then.

I'm a bit concerned about the tyre noise thought.... u see I optioned for the Charlestons and apparently the thinner the tyre more the road noise, I heard the dunlops are better for road noise.... but of the 3 tyres u have the chance of getting best feedback seems to be the bridgestones overall.

Can't wait for the pics, interesting idea with number plate on the lower grill, wouldn't mind seeing how u mounted it. I might give it a go myself when my car arrives.

16's are standard. I did not option the rims as no one could tell me if the
MY08 had different to the MY07.
I think they are the same as the late MY07 but different to the earlier MY07.
I don't like the earlier ones but these are fine.

Took the advice from this forum and increased the tyre pressure and changed to BP in my ute some time ago and now get up to 50km more.

I'm a bit concerned about the noise and also the sensitivity of the steering.
I might get the spare out and have a good look at it.
I had a look at the side of the tyres today to see if it has a marking for which way the tyre should be on the rim but could not find anything,
I was wondering if they are on the correct way.
The tyre tread is different on the inside compared to the outside.
Hoping someone has them and can tell me which edge the pattern should be on.
            Neil.

                Hey Neil,

My Jetta MY07 has the standard Atlantic 16" rims as yours with the Conti 2s 205/55/v16. They are an assymetric tyre meaning that they have an 'outside' side as mentioned by an earlier post.
I find them very good but really not that noisy compared to some tyres I've been on. I find the Michelin Vivacys 205/60/16 on our Camry far noisier on course chip compared to the Contis on the Jetta.
Generally tyres with a wide tread pattern are noisier but that's a price for increased wet weather grip. They have very good grip too IMHO. But they are showing signs of wear on the front after 27,000km (wife likes the torque and drives it accordingly). Rears will get swapped to the front in a few weeks @ the next service. They should be OK for 50,000.
See my post about the brake dust. Horrible stuff.
I'll be running up past your way at Xmas going to the inlaws @ Nth Rivers via my parents i@ Wentworth Falls in the Blue Mtns. I here the road is pretty good now but not looking forward to the traffic. Hopefully the traffic will disappiate early seeing Xmas day is on the Tues. Gives time for the weekend to clear the traffic. Hope to travel on 24th to Maclean.

                Regards,

Neil. (Yes, you are reading correctly, my name's Neil too)

Good luck on the trip North. I doubt the freeway will be finished. The traffic you would think will be horrendous. Its a parking lot every friday arvo with
the sydney folk getting out for the weekend.
The tail end now starts on the old pacific hwy and pennets hill rd to the berowra interchange. You should have a good run once you get to the
                        hawkesbury.
And good to see you spell your name the correct way.hehe

Give me a few days and I will try to put a pic up.
It didnt take long to make the brackets up and I have also taken a pic
of the bracket, screws and plate next to a ruler to show people the size
and how easy it is to make.
I think it looks better, of course it can only be done if the car is new. you have to warn you dealer not to put the plate on at all on the front.

Anyway thanks everyone for replying. Looks like I will have to live with the
                        noise.
                        Thanks again neil.

                          Tyre noise on Golf V

As a previous owner of 2.0TDi Sportline DSG for 2 years with the 17" Sport Conti 2's, I can vouch for the tyre noise. But, wierdness has now occurred...

Have changed Golf over to 2.0TDi Eos with 18" wheels and still the SportConti 2's and it is practically the quitest car I have driven (many years with the tomb-like silence of the Mitsubishi Veradas). There is no road noise except for on the concrete stuff and the noisiest thing is the diesel engine instead (only heard in the tunnells)....

So, go figure - there must be some other reason why the Golf's have so much tyre noise and the cure is to buy a more expensive version without a roof!!

                            Hey briseos.
                            That is strange.
I found the cement quieter than the ashfelt in the new car and with my old
car it was the other way around.
I can't hear the engine for the road noise.
Don't notice it much around town, only at higher speed 100km/h.
Might send off an email to VW aus.

Hi Neil... well done.. sounds a very nice car. Re tyre noise I reckon the front tyres on my wifes 2004 1.6l drum..she can't pick it. They're Michelin Energys on 15" rims. Higher profile than what you have but very good tyres and plenty life left in them @ 44k.

Digressing can remember fondly driving from Sydney to Gosford in a Europecar MK4 Golf rental, an automatic. It's quite a spectacular piece of freeway and this Golf really flew. I guess the old adage rent a cars alway go better because they are driven perhaps harder holds true.

But you have to keep an eye on the missus 1.6 on the open rd.. not powerful around town but on the open roads plenty of legs. And at right on the 3 year mark it's still got that wonderful Golf (or it is VW) smell when you open the door. Enjoy your new car!
