  • Fuel cap holder

One thing that annoys me with the Jetta is there is nowhere to put the fuel cap when you've unscrewed it, so you have to let it dangle against the paintwork (since it's attached with a short cable).

Does the Golf V have a holder inside the flap maybe? Or can I retrofit a part from something else (anyone looked into it?).

this has been bothering me as well! since its described in the users manual that there should be a place to hook it. Time to investigate methinks!

The GTI has some simple grooves cut into the fuel cap that you are supposed to sit on top of the fuel gate. It is a rather hopeless design and I'm afraid my old 95 Nissan Maxima had a wonderful slot on the gate that worked like a charm.

12 years of design research obviously didn't go into the fuel cap.

the grooves on the top of the cap dont fit properly. if you look in the manual it says there is sposed to be a holder?!

My Mk3 has a groove that fits over the fuel cap and that works fantastic. the mk5 fuel cap is round though. so surely its not sposed to work the same way

Using the grooves I can place the cap on the top of the fuel gate, but it is far from elegant or effective. I could be wrong though

Meant to sit on top of the flap but like people have said not really a well thought out design and slides where ever it wants. My mrs mini is a master piece by comparison.

Yeah that balancing thing isn't real crash hot. Even just a pair of simple metal tags would suffice (like on my Jeep).

I seem destined to buy cars that always have some weird thing with the fuel cap. My old Land Rover had a key lock that you couldn't take the key out when the cap was off, so you'd have to find somewhere to balance your fuel cap and keys. My Jeep has a keylock as well, was so glad to get a car with remote cap release but then nowhere to put the cap

our Passat has a little dowel like plastic piece on the end that fits neatly into a hole on the hinge/pivot for the fuel door.
