  • Wheel alignment

    Hi,

I've got my wife's MY09 GTI in for its 3rd year service next month and the prior two services i've had a tyre rotation done. This 3rd year service will be no exception with a rotation organised. However i'm wondering whether i need to do an alignment also, for no other reason that it's been 3 years since the factory alignment. At 27,000klm the tyres look evenly worn, with no pulling in either direction. What would you do?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Stevie1

My 08 GTI is now at 93,000km and I have NEVER had a wheel alignment on it. I rotate back to front once the fronts get too low and then get a new set of four when they get too low.

I am not a mechanical person but I do not see any uneven wear on the tyres.

BTW I have a Corolla that is close to 120,000km that also has never had one and again I don't plan on it unless I see uneven wear.

A prior car I had from new I wheel aligned and once I did this, it seems that I always had to get it wheel aligned.

I have never really had a problem with hitting kerbs and things so I may just be lucky

92,000km on the Skoda (same chassis as a MKV) & never had an alignment. Tyres wear evenly, no saw-toothing on the inside rears.

Quite frankly, I reckon the dealer would ruin it if they touched it.
