    hello there

i recently bought a water damaged Vw from salvage auctions out here.

just wondering where the airbag sensor/s are located??

and the control module for Dsg gearbox (making it able to change gears in and out of park)

because i cannot get it out of gear (P,N,D,S etc all flashing on cluster.. dunno if this is normal) and when i force locking pin out manually so i can take it out of gear and put it into the drive the gear doesn't engage..

There also seems to be a rattly noise that can be heard through the port holes of the gearbox that is mounted to the engine... that comes and goes while idling and after reeving the car.... just wondering any idea what this could be?

    Cheers, Thanks

I wouldn't run it at all and I'd
take it to the VW dealer for check up and tell them that it was in the water. Let them do DSG oil change (or do it yourself) also pay attention to fuel tank and fuel system it must be without of water. Fuel pump and unit injectors cost fortune and water will ruin them. Change all oils and make sure you use right specs of oils
New control module for DSG should you need would have to be coded and only VW dealer can do it. I have VAG-COM myself but one cannot do everything with it.
    Good luck

Is there any particular reason you bought a water damaged car at auction..?

If you bought a salvaged car with a knackerd DSG you bought the wrong car

No, I don't know the location of the DSG module but you can download workshop manual from ERWIN that will give you better view onto the problem you have. However paying to the dealer for diagnostic check and opinion what to do next may be better option and it could save you a lot of money. Let them do the diagnostic check and you can take it from there.

I've heard stories of 'friends of friends' of mine who have bought a storm damaged car from salvage auctions, replaced the ECU and battery and the cars have been 'bullet proof' afterwards.
Although that was a few years ago with a Honda Prelude and I must emphasise, it's a friend of a friend of mine.
With something as complicated as a MkV Golf with DSG..hmm.. water does some weird things.

May I ask if the car was at a huge saving compared to a 2nd hand Golf?
