  • 19inch Fittings?

    Hey guys,
Been curious about this for a while, but does anyone know how well 19inch rims sit on the mk5s? Googling produces some reslts, but its been hard to narrow it down to certain wheels.

In particular I was looking at the 19inch VW Talladegas (from the Golf R mk6).
I believe these are offset 45? width 9, but I'm not too sure how all the numbering fits in with my mk5 golf

    Thanks again!

    I'm pretty sure they are 19 x 8 ET 50

    The smaller ones are 18 x 7.5 ET 50

as above, think they are 8s.
should fit fine, nothing really changed from the mk5 to mk6 as far as im aware.
there is a million threads on here about guys fitting wheels up to 8.5" wide, but 8et50 will fit no worries, stick a 225/35/19 or 235/35/19 on and your good to go

I've got 19x8.5" ET49 OZ Racing with 235/35/19 tyres... I had my guards rolled due to scrubbing and the fact I'm getting lower this week!

I still reckon 18s will still better than 19s. 19" looks too big in my opinion. And I am pretty sure you cant go too low with 19s.

I have 19 VMRs on the R32....no rub, no poke, no need to roll guards.

                    Ha....
It's as though you've been reading my mind - or there's definitely a hive-like-mind thing going on for us VWers...
I've been researching & researching & talking to great many people, both mechanics, tyre garages dudes & various peeps on forums etc., about 19" wheels on a MK5 GTi

My personal preference, together with all the research have led me to these conclusions:
I love the 18" DETROIT wheel look, yet are very common on MKV6s...but I still like them, even though I haven't seen them on a 5.

I looked at many, many 18" wheels; VMR, OZ RACING, VW & AUDI replicas, HR, VOLK RACING, ENKEI, KAHN, LENSO, AZEV, BBS....all the while liking the "chunky" polished/black look of the DETROITs, but somehow they themselves didn't look "special" if I were to invest the extra $s.
Whilst looking at these wheels, I saw a set of BBS/VMR which looked very cool in a BLACK/CHROME finish with black accents - which made the wheel look bigger, only catch was they were only available in 19"s.....which I was trying to avoid.
Now, this opened up the 18" vs 19" debate in my mind....many, many options in 18", but also in 19"s: there was also the whole debate about, cost of replacement tyres, comfort, ride quality etc., etc., if I wanted to drop the ride height, would KW springs (which are my choice) be enough, or would I need some coil-over KW STREET-COMFORT which I've been recommended by my mechanic who I trust implicitly.

Then there's the whole other issue of wheel widths & offset - which itself helps narrow down your options depending on what you'd like to do or not do (rolling guards & modifying your body for in any way).

The best thing to do I think is narrow down the designs you like & see if they come in 19" sizes, but also pay careful attention to the widths & offsets..I found these calculators to be invaluable.

Phew!! Anyway, i settled on a set of ALPIL W-12 19" BLACK POLISH size: 19" x 8" et 42 & have budgeted for 232/35-19 tyres (which have the correct load rating)....then depending on how they look & ride, I may or may not need to change suspension. My GTi is my daily driver, so nothing crazy for me - not SLAMMED anyway...most important for me is the mix of looks/comfort/ride quality & sexy look! Ha! Ha!
The ALPILs were also not too different to the spec of the original 17" or the 18" DETROITs (17"x7.5" et 51 & 18"x7.5"-I think et 51 respectively)...so if you put the figures in the calculator - these ALPILs will only stick out 13mm further towards the guard edge - at the same time clearing the suspension struts by 3-4mm.

**quik photoshop of what they should look like....need to wait a few weeks..**

Anyway - not sure about the TALLAs in 19"s width & offset: google them & you'll find some info, my mechanic offered me a set of OEMs with tyres for a very reasonable $....but not my first choice....

                    Hope all my rambling helps...
