GTI Clutch pedal

Hi,

Sorry for making a thread just to ask this question, I'm unsure where it should go.

Recently purchased a Golf GTI and I think there may be something wrong with the clutch, it seems as though it doesnt pop all the way back up once I've changed gears... I spoke to the mechanic where I bought the car and he said that its a racing clutch and it was designed to do that to save time changing gears when racing, is this correct?

Doesn't sound right to me.

I've seen both the clutch master cylinder and clutch slave cylinder fail on these. You might want to get a second opinion.

I'm laughing to stop myself from crying with this one! If someone ever gave me this advice I would be thinking that they were feeding me the biggest load of bull ever.

The clutch pedal should always return to its orginial extended position after you've depressed and then released it. Can you give more detail... Does the pedal feel soggy? Is the friction point unusually long or short in the travel? etc etc.

The mechanic is having a lend of you. Did he call you Sweetheart or Dear as well?

If the car is under warranty then I'd recomend you get a full mechanical inspection done by Sydney Roads. i think they are about $350 but worth every penny. Then, armed with your comprehensive report, get all the warranty things fixed. If Sydney Roads doesn't appeal to you then an inspection by an independant VW specialist might be the next best thing. Where in Sydney are you?

I'm not sure if they still do it, but the NRMA used to have an advocate service for dealing with stroppy car sales yards.

Oh what a lying son of a bitch!

It was at Carizma at seven hills, they gave me a good trade in price so i dont want to shame them.. Just their mechanic. I got the car inspected before I bought it at ultratune and the report came back fine!!

It makes an annoying ticking noise also not the clutch just the car not the engine like inside the car even when it's just the reds on. The clutch feels normal still firm like a new clutch just the pedal doesn't retract when it should.

A very nice vw'er told me to bring it to his shop and he will look at it, luckily there are still some decent people in this world!

I had the Slave cylinder on my GTI go in February. Mine started with a metal on metal sound though. clutch did not feel any different. If they do go though the repair bill is around 4k. i had the vw extended warranty and got it all done for free.

$4000 just for a slave cylinder? I can't see it costing that even after taking LSD.

Hi Brad,

In the end cause the Slave cylinder blew. They replaced the clutch, fly wheel , slave cylinder and housing. All under warranty so no complaints
