  • Euro number plate mounting

    Hi Guys,

Have an R32 arriving in December, and had a few quick questions......

(will start a thread for each one to make it easier)

Q1. Does the vehicle come with a mounting bracket for Euro number plates?

Q2. I read a recent thread regarding 3M double sided tape. Has anyone ever had adhesion issues with this method?

Q3. Does anyone know anywhere in Australia that sells the following mounting bracket? (or similar) These look just about perfect for what I am after.

Give your car, truck or SUV a lasting shine that everyone will notice by ordering the highest-quality exterior care products and using our free knowledge.

Just came from a POS saab. Note to everyone here - NEVER buy a SAAB. ever! hehe

    Thanks again, Great forum btw.....

The product you're asking about looks more like a number plate cover rather than a mounting bracket.

You should be able to get a similar type of thing at Autobarn.

My 2006 GTI came with a euro mounting base.

I had to buy a complete new 2007 grille which was minus the euro base.

So, is it the cover you're looking for, or the actual mounting piece?

    Cheers

    Chris

That plate frame looks spookily similar to the one South Yarra VW offered me.
My SA plates wouldn't fit, so I declined. Anyhow, give them a call you never know...

All R32's coming into oz are fitted with the euro plate mounts (so i believe)

Anyone who doesn't have it has special ordered it (i read somewhere they're bringing them in from Japan).

Which kinda sucks, cause i didn't get euro plates for my car.. blah...

Slightly off topic - relates to my Eos - but it came with the Euro mounting plate the same as on the GTI in the previous reply - the dealer had already drilled it into the chrome and the holes were not in the same place as a normal plate so if you wanted to remove it, you needed to put a Euro plate on there (21")... so I got Euro plates and then left the mount on there anyway as it does provide some protection to your grille/bumper from walls etc (distance challenged at times!)..... and it actually looks really good (slightly larger radius curve than the bumper)

Incidentally, the bit in the ad about the euro plates being more flexible than usual may not be the case as mine are the same structure as normal plates and pretty bloody stiff to the extent they require a little bit of elbow grease to spring onto the mount on the Eos...... so there is NO WAY any car wash my car goes near is ripping that baby off!! - but non-Qld euro's may be different??

            Euro plate mounting

            Howdi,

            Thanks for the replies guys....

Just had a quick look a few pics of R32 demo cars on carsales and can see the mount you are talking about. Exactly the kinda thing I was hoping for. Didn't want the dealership drilling extra holes in the bumper.... Crisis O.V.A.H

Is it because a lot of the VWs we get here are also used for the UK market? So it saves them having to make pointless varations for us... That's my theory anyway...
