  • Centre vent assembly came apart

Hi guys, this is my first real post. Hope someone is able to help

As I was doing a new stereo install, the centre air vent assembly came apart on me. I've spent hours trying to put both the left and right centre vent back together again but no luck

It seems I have 4 of the side connector pieces, but two are slighty shorter than the other two. Is this normal?

Should 1 side connector be longer than the other side?

If anyone can give me some details to reassembling this it would be much appreciated as its driving me crazy

Haha same thing happened to me. Yeah its normal to be like that. I can't remember exactly how it fits back together but the slats just sit between those end parts you have pictured then that assembly slots into the plastic surround. I'd say the two short ones either both go in the middle or both on the outside. You might ahve to experiment a bit.

same thing happened here, I actually broke a piece, if it's under warranty they replaced the whole thing for me

                Same thing happened to mine.

Tried to glue it in place to allow it to stay together long enough that I could re-install it. Ba-bow.

I did get it replaced under warranty. If you have run out of warranty, you might be interested in this: Volkswagen R32 MKV 3.2 > Interior > Dashboard > ES#6839 Anthracite Dash Kit - 1K0898012

Wish I was ready to worry about re-installing it...Already wasted another hour trying to figure out the exact combination.

I don't understand how if one side is shorter than the other they can all still be parallel?

Because the frame is not a true square. IIRC...the top slats are narrower than the lower ones.

Thanks Steve, at the moment everything is completely detached so I am starting from the beginning.

Do you remember if the passenger vent is a mirror image of the driver vent? Worst puzzle ever!

yep...passenger side of the set up is same as the drivers.
Work slowly...don't rush. And when it's all back together...don't drop it. (Don't ask me why)

Thanks bud, least I know once I've got it correct on one side I can just follow the same logic/sizes for the other side.

                          Wish it wasn't so flimsy!

Spent a bit of time of this, think I've tried all combinations but can't seem to get better than the pics below (which are obviously incorrect):

When I set mine up all combinations have slopes / angle issues as depicted, anyone know the reason for this? (I am obviously overlooking something simple)

                            Much appreciated guys

                              IIRC,

each side/set of louvres has a pair of curved 'brackets' (1 x left and 1 x right) which have holes in them (total of 4 per bracket). The horizontal slats fit in to those brackets, with each slat having a nib/nipple which goes into a hole.

From what I can see in your pictures...that ain't happening.
